I personally wouldnt want any type of APBT or mix as just a house dog they are working animals and have way too much energy just to be cooped up in the house all day as a house dog alone

No dog should be cooped up in the house all day and never given exercise/attention etc, I don't care what the breed is. They are all dogs.

With that being said, it's just a matter of preference. If you want a working APBT as a household pet then be prepared to put in the time and attention to get rid of all that excess energy every day. :)

Just because you get a "fashion bred dog" doesn't mean you won't get one that is destructive and needs extensive daily exercise.

It depends entirely on what you are going to do with the dog. I know you said just as a house dog....so I am assuming that you want something calm, and easy to train. It is really hard to say to be honest as dogs are a case by case basis for the most part. There are families of animals that tend to run calmer than others, but nothing is a guarantee. If you are wanting something that is already house broken, and all that jazz then your best bet is most likely to get something from say a rescue or some sort of adoption agency. Then again you don't really know the dog, but you can get a better feel of how the dog is as you can look at dogs that are already mature adults. Take special consideration if you have kids. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

    amstaffs are good house dogs..

  10. My pits have always been great house pets...they have all been calm inside, and atomic bombs outside. But like any dog, you need to give them some time and attention. They need to run everyday, twice a day if possible from a year up. I would never waste my time with a bully personally, I don´t see the point.
If you are not planning on training your dog, forget about pitbulls, he will be unhappy...rather get a poodle, it´s a house dog.

my house dog is calm and reseved and is from working stock.she has never been turned on and is a good dog beside the occasional garbage eating and other things.she runs free thoughout the house and when she gets into trouble she is crated and gets the point very quick.i can take her out people can pet and love on her,but in the truck and if you knock on the door watch out.:dogkiss:

why own a breed of dog that is riddled with defects and is out of proportion?

everydog needs exercise even bullies, and the truth is a Gamebred Apbt can be anything you want it to be. yes they need exercise, but they are also are happy to sit on the lounge or on their bed and chill with you all day. ,just walk it and train it and you wont have a problem.

i bet a gamebred dog as a house pet would be better than 90% of house dog breeds if you took the right aproach.

i have allways had one as a house dog, since ive owned them, and i have never ever had a single issue with any of them at all in the house. ive even played musical dogs with a friend who lived with me for a while, she had a house border collie, and my house dog was the most da do ive owned and we made it work for the three months they stayed.
truth is if you want to make it work it will work and ithink if someone wants a easy, no work breed they probly should be looking for a teddy bear not a dog..

so yeah im biased its bulldogs or nuthin.[that and i would never give some blue dog peddling peice of shit the money to support those abominations.

I would choose a gamebred apbt simply because, like the old addage saids, an apbt can do anything any other dog can do, but better. Many people say that the gamebred apbts requires a lot of work and shouldn't be cooped up in the house all day, which I agree with. However, there are/have been many matchdogs, including gr. ch.'s that are/were house dogs. Gambler's gr. ch. virgil is a house dog after he has been retired to stud and santa's gr. ch. mongoose was known to be really laid back and was more than content just lying besides his master's feet for hours. Like JunkYard said, if you want to make it work, it will work.

Why not just get an amstaff. It not so messed up like the bully. Looks much better and actually has established lines.

IDK, I suppose I am a little biased toward the game bred types, but I do know that a dog is a dog when it comes to puppyhood and all needing manners. The most destructive dog I ever owned was a Beaudreaux bred boy. He was incorrigible.
The least destructive and most mellow dog ever in the house was a Redboy/Jocko on the bottom and Carver on the top cross. Oddly enough they were equally DA in that both were EXTREME.
Other family members have had other breeds that were destructive and werent bulldogs at all.
Gamebreds make excellent house and family pets whether they are working or not.

well in my experience i have found the majority of game bred dogs to tear the hell out of the house i have a lil blue bitch as a house dog and she does ok but at times she will try to get away with tearing shit up but i have to say she is one of the smartest dogs i have ever owned and very calm until its time to play with the flirtpole or tug or something of the sort

I have 2 gamebred APBTs in my home right now. I call them "housedogs" at this point in their lives. Yet they still get adequate exercise (2-3 mile daily walk/jogs and time with the flirtpole). It's very possible to keep an APBT inside IF you understand the needs and wants of the dogs and fulfill them. A tired dog is a happy dog.

I have also had several rescued "pit bulls" in the past. I have no problem owning a rescue and keeping it as a housedog or pet in general. I had the time, energy, space, and resources to take in a rescue or two, so I did. That was that.

  18. Well when i say house dog.. I dont mean it just sits in the house all day and eat bacon strips..lol... Im an active person I always exercise my dogs either runnin with them, or just take them to a place I know and let them just run free for hours or weight pull.. I guess I didn't explain myself correctly. Which would I be better off... What I mean is that I know when you just breed dogs for looks you really dont know what you are getting as far as temperment goes, so a game bred would be easier to know what kind of dog im getting as opposed to me just getting a regular show type dog??

i think there would be tons of Adba, show ring apbt,s that would fully suit your needs and they wont look like a bully.
if you went gamebred or even a show apbt, [not bully] i wouldnt be letting it run around for hours unless its in a very secure area, [i know you probly used it for an example but just thought id add this] due to the fact they can and will still be very DA at the drop of a hat.

hope thats a bit clearer for you.

Ok, lets say someone would ask me this question(the topic) I would answer the Bully, but make sure you get it from a some what healthy stock. Why bully? Because someone who ask that question has no buisness dealing with these dogs. Game dogs are not for the general public. They work as house dogs yes, probably better than any other dog. However, if your not up to the challenge you should stay with the "fake-pits". :dogkiss:
