Now what i said about the old timer it doesnt make it right.The explanation I got was they were feeding Diamond and they started having all the recalls.And thats when they switched to Purina now weather u like it or not Purina pust a tremendous amount of research into thier feed and have had very few recalls if any.I dont remember any.

 

If you work your dogs or take them to shows buy a quality feed. I buy my dog Orijen Adult. Thee very best you can buy. It's so worth it for the long term. I also if her meats. Real dogmen will notice a healthy looking dog. I feed 3 cups a day compared to a shit feed it would be like 5 or 6.

 

I think this thread has gone the direction of how to maintain more than one dog when not being in a keep.Its easy enough to maintain one dog and not every owner here competes in conformation shows.And if you have more than one its not as easy to walk all of them every day.You will always have people say you go too many then.Well if your breeding naturally you will have more than 1 and if some people did not breed then you would not have your dog.Its not a perfect world but it also doesnt mean that the breeder doesnt take good care of thier animals even if they feed a cheaper food.

 

So what dog food authority says that's the best? I don't think there is a best. It's dependent on the dogs eating it. It's all about what your hounds like and function best off of. Don't think anybody has the right to look down on anyone for what they do or don't feed. So if a person smokes or drinks they should spend $40+ on a bag of food?? That's just bullshit right there. Bc it's based on the theory that more expensive=better. That's how they get dumbasses to buy Kobe beef say its better and charge more, but in a actuality it's a myth bc there isn't any Kobe beef in America.... But it cost more so its gotta be better right?

 

I geuss I'm a cheapskate, I feed the cheapest food that maintains the dogs. I've fed stuff that was cheaper, didn't work as good. I've fed stuff more expensive, that didn't work any better.

 

Purina as a company invest in tons of $$ in nutritional and health animal research, not just in pets but on farm and zoo animals aswell.
They have had the occasional recall, but not on a scale as the Diamond one had!

IMO there both garbage and for another $10 extra a bag you can get a kibble with a little better quality ingredients wise. Now in the end...everyone is gonna feed what they choose, or feed the yard one kibble for everyday maintenance and top quality kibble for shows and hunting season.
I hear what both LWG and RedGoodbye are both saying and to each his own. I think for people to make a better choice in selecting kibble they need to do there homework on canine nutrition and ingredients listed on kibble.
I for one had tried them all...from Pro Plan, Canidae, TOTW to Orijen....and for some reason my dogs looked healthy and did there best on Pro Plan....now looking at the ingredients you would wonder what makes it work so well for the dogs? I could'nt figure it out but it worked!

 

Flip I would choose Pro Plan over the grain free if I was going to spend that much money.I have always liked Purina.I waited a few yrs bfore I went to Diamond and it seems latelty they had thier shit together.Pro Plan is a little to high for me so I made the choice to regular Diamond.But I am with ya on the Pro Plan i fed it bfore.And its some dam nice feed man.

 

Time spent with animals doesnt make up for shit feed...... you can spend the least and feed the best.......just cant be a lazy ass........maintaining dogs is work! If your saying ol roy is all you can afford, well.....im sorry I just dont buy it, if you cant afford to feed decent kibble than you should take the time of day for eco raw....better than the best kibble & cheaper than the cheapest feed........if my broke ass can afford to feed my dogs like I do.......anybody should be able to....munless theyre homeless........lol

 

Diamond naturals is a way better feed than anything purina has out......

 

And cheaper to boot!

I have fed many foods over years. Currently feeding Pro Plan to most. TOTW to one, and Hill's prescription J/d to the old man. I have done raw in a keep once. Currently we are only feeding 11 dogs.

Ole Roy is garbage food. However I have fed it in a pinch once and years ago when I was in school. But if I can afford to feed a better quality food I will.

Also have you seen the price of Ole Roy lately. You can get a better quality food for the price.

 

Feed whatever you want their your dogs, and it makes no difference to me. I will say that I personally would never consider ole roy or purina an option for my animals...I feel if you have the funds you should feed a quality food, and no I don't mean totw or something that expensive I'm just saying something that isn't basically ground yellow corn, animal byproduct (whatever that is), and excrement, lol. I'm just talking a good decent feed. I like totw honestly I feel it to be the best kibble I have ever tried on my yard, but I sure as hell don't feed it year round...I like Victor for my normal feed pretty well plus the value is good around here (Tomball, Tx) I pay 30 bucks even for a 40 lb bag, and the dogs look pretty good on it. I'm not one to hate on what another man does or feeds on his yard but I do believe if you are going to own dogs you should also make it a priority to care for them well especially if you demand the best from them. I'm not saying cut out everything else just so you can afford to give them every last penny, but your priorities should be in order...if you're gettin hammered on good liquor every night, snorting nothing but the finest white, or smokin the stickiest and your animals are eating roadkill n saw dust you should rethink your game plan n get your priorities in order. If you have so many that you can't give them good care...again rethink your options. Either way this is just how I see it n honestly I couldn't care less what anyone does with their property (animals) it ain't my yard and affects me n mine absolutely none so do what you do.
