Pedigree or breeder which matters more?

Which matters more when getting a dog; the pedigree or the breeder. I say the breeder based on my limited experience. The best dog I own has basicly unknown dogs on the bottom side, but I knew the breeders standards and integrity and took her home. She is the real deal and I probally would have passed her by based on her paperwork.

Definitely the breeder but the breeder will have dogs with good pedigrees.

breeder, and the fact that the peds are basically unknown, and i asume your talk'n about the WWW lol is a good sign. it proberly means they aint been bred out the ass and peddled.
one of the best dogs i ever owned came from a fella who kept them all his life, never sold a 1. he gave me one in trust and when he retired he culled every single dog on his yard. ive never come across that same ped. and if i were to show you, you wouldn't know what you were look'n at. i can say this because it was long enough ago, but 6xw,4xw,etc,etc,etc.
it was a gaurded secret;) matter of fact it still is lol...

mate, i hear ya. but what exactly is a good ped these days.
all i ever see is links from feds on-line. fark man, i can put rom, por,xw,was a game winner etc on that ped-dle site and have everyone drooling, say'n wow, thats a nice ped.
what i consider a good ped and know to be a good ped is one that i have formed in my head based upon dogs ive seen or know of. or one if you like, a ped my good friend has written down on a piece of paper for me consisting of the dogs that brought about the one im interested in, again from dogs i know of or have close kin to.;)

geeze, i hope i got that out right :D

Your right behavin but it doesnt matter where the ped is writ because someone could write on a peice of paper a load of bull just as easy as they could on that site.depends if you know and trust the guy that shows you the ped or who created it i guess

yes, that is why i used the words.."my good friend";)
the bit of paper don't have to have "por", "rom", or xw because i would already know this.
also i do not buy from people i don't know. maybe im lucky but some circles are tighter than others.

One mans quality is another mans trash!! The breeder will always be more important than the pedigree. Three reasons, 1: The breeder can put any paperwork he wants on any pup on the yard, wheather is from the ADBA,AADR or hand written. He can tell you what ever you want to hear. 2: One breeders level of quality may not be the same as yours, so he could have a yard full of untested stock that acts real good on the chain, to him they're game. 3. I've seen dogman with time under their belt 15-25 yrs worth, and some take complete shitty care of their dogs and pups, no shots, no wormers, and at 3 wks old they're ready to go. The pups are dirty, leaky eyes and god knows what else.
So if you buying a pup based on just a pedigree, good luck cause your just what these peddlers are looking for. They both are important, but the breeder is more important in my book. JMO:)

I agree with all of what was said. This is lesson I learned the hard way ( time and money). By the way the only papers I got was a handwritten pedigree. I would have never bought a dog without registration papers. Glad I did without blinking an eye.

to alot of people a dog with adba papers etc, may be a bit of piece of mind. my first few had all the paper work on em. but honestly, as the years have gone on, ive come across more and more with hand written peds. and infact a good deal of those dogs are twice the dogs and more, than the ones you'll find with papers.
    ive come to understand this.........

a very large percent of people who sell dogs all the time, or peddle as we most like to call it will no doubt have the adba..etc. papers because in reality this is all they have to fall back on other than some dogs in a kennel run or on a chain who's great grandsire etc did this or that and has ch so and so in the ped x amount of times blah blah.

the modest person who gives or sells you a dog but is reluctant to hand one over and can stand there and show you this dog did this and that dog over there at the far end is a ch and resites that dogs peds and records etc. from his head, then scribbles down a three or four gen ped for you on the back of an envolope has the most honestly bred to true standard dogs there is.;)

I'm not disagreeing with you, but i have seen just as many crappy dogs with hand written peds as the ones with real registration papers. Which is why the breeder is so inportant, no matter what your paperwork says on it or what its printed on, that breeder has to have a good understanding of his dogs as well as a certain level of quality in each dog he breeds. Ive seen great dog with paperwork, without paperwork and hand written. A good dog is truely where you find them, a breeder who owns quality dogs should produce quality pups with good percentage. In my opinion, the lineage of dog will mean nothing if he is from poor quality stock. JMO

Thank you button for this post. This is why anytime I sell a dog I give it a guarantee. I've gotten in a few serious debates about my guarantee because they can't beleive it! Anyone who buys a pup or dog from me gets a satisfaction guarantee. I have always doine this and very few have come back to me. My guarantee is if for any reason you are unsatisfied with the pup or dog you purchase just return it in good health and get another one from a current or future breeding. Also this guarantee never expires! For example, you buy a 12 week old puppy and 2 years later you can't keep hiom or her or it doesn't turn out like you were hoping bring it back and get another puppy close to the same age as the one you bought. Another example, if you buy a 2 year old dog and after some time it doesn't turn out like you thought return it and get another of the same age or younger. Sounds good right? Here is the only catch. If you decide to breed the dog then it cancels the guartantee. Why? because a dog need to earn its right to be bred and if you bred him or her then you must of been satisfied with the dog! How many people will give you this guarantee? I bet not many! What do you guys think of that?

When is your next litter, i'll take that quarantee any day of the week. You cant beat that.:D

It's really all about good customer service. If someone spends their good hard earned money with you, I don't want them to leave disappointed. I want them to get their moneys worth so they stay a loyal customer. It is just as important to me as it is them that they get a good dog.

 if you believe that i want some of what you been drinking. yes some do hang false titles on dogs but take it from someone who knows things in the dark come to the light. your false "rom, por,xw will be in question. who did he go into who was there too vouch what weight what times, what has she or he thrown that can be proven to there titles. it happens to known dogmen more then you think bud. if your stuff is offical the real will know you will only be able to trick greenhorns with no connections. if you cant prove it prepare to be called out on it. dont think people not gonna want a peice of that action so if you cant back it up dont post it.
