My dog is now 9months old and doesn't seem to jump a lot. Getting on the couch or bed, he just puts up his front paws and does like this pull-up routine. When he gets really excited he flys across the room in the air on the couch, but every other time he could easily jump up but does the pull-up routine.

Curious to hear about others experiences in terms of did their dog always jump from a young age or did jumping become more pronounced after maturity?

Wow thats a new one never heard no one complain about their dog not jumping up most would ask how to get their dog to not jump up. Kinda sounds like he thinks he is gonna get in trouble for it to me anyways sounds like a good dog.

Yea serious, I need advice on how to get my dog to stop jumping...

But to answer the OP's question mine jumped from the day he got home.

I had a Dogue de Bordeaux that did the pull-up method in certain situations when he was young, but I preferred it cuz I didn't want him messin up his joints while growing up. By the time he got to 7 months he stopped using the pull-up method on anything.

My dog right now will jump on everything but I've had a bitch that did that exact thing, just drag herself onto the couch all lazy like. Unless she excited about something, then she'd hop from couch to couch. Unfortunately her life was short lived but she did it up until 1.5years old.

lol my dog jumps for fun well it just depends on the dog i guess but if u want him to jump play with him inside like get him to jump up for a ball or rope but i dont think it matters if he jumps inside best if he didnt

Jumped out the living room window while I was out and killed the neighbors cat. AC put her down.

My pup had some hesitation towards the idea of jumping for ANYTHING until she was about 10 or 11 months. An example is that whenever she would ride in the car with me, she wouldnt know how to get in. I had to physically position her body and show her how to jump in the car and be very patient with her so she knew all I wanted was for her to get in the car on her own. We werent going anywhere or doing anything else until that happened. I think that was the most beneficial part of the learning process for her. After a few weeks of doing this, she got the hang of things and jumps in and out of the car without any hesitation.

Another thing that I believed helped her with her jumping was a flirt pole. Up until she was about 10 or 11 months, it took alot of work to work up her courage TO JUMP AT ALL and now that shes alittle over a year, I have to work on not having her jump SO MUCH!

    That is horrible man. :(

Did the cat come on your property and your dog went after it, or did your dog go on your neighbors property and get it? The reason I ask is because my dog has the same mentality, but its mainly when the neighbors cat comes onto my property that its dead meat.

Cat came on to my property. My bitch went through the blinds and one of my roomates left the window half open to air the place out so the only thing stopping her was the screen.

I really to miss that dog, she was shy as hell but really had been coming into her own the last couple months of her life.

Honestly I'd keep a close watch on that. Not wanting to jump when dealing with this breed IMO can mean health issues like HD, a torn ACL or pulled ligament or muscle. Periodic spurts of energy and jumping doesn't mean there isn't a problem. If it continues or gets worse, I'd get some vet advice and possibly x-rays done.

Except for my one that was injured as a pup (got stepped on by mama) all of mine have always been active. Even she had to be kept on crate rest for her not to jump around while healing.

It could also mean you just plain old have more of a couch potato personality dog. Just I've never had to deal with one like that...

I hope it is nothing and that the pup is fine!

Seems ludacris to me that your dogs life was held accountable for the cats trespassing on your property. Stupid AC.

She was deemed a "dangerous dog" or some bs like that. Dogs chase cats, if your cat was in the house there wouldn't be a problem. I'm just glad I finally got out of there.

I think I might have figured it out. My entire house is either hardwood floors or granite tiles. Both of wich are pretty slippery. When he tries to run in the house its like hes on ice. I think he just realizes that he can't get a good foothold when jumping in the house so he doesn't. I take him out in the backyard and he doesn't hesitate to jump. Still not a crazy jumper in terms of heighth though.

  18. I hate cats.... sorry to hear that about your dog mate. Screw the AC:mad:. My pup jumps on everything but stays off of couches and chairs unless i give permission. ( after a lot of work lol) Only thing he jumps at now are the unlucky squirrels in my back yard.
