i do not believe the ab possesses gameness, and rooster that was as accurate a definition as i have seen...the only thing i would add, is that when he goes across his death is of no consequence, he firmly believes he is still winning...regardless of the actual situation...
i went to a hog dog trial is SC some years back...saw this bitch get gutted by a boar...i mean damn near hanging guts...she adjusted and caught the hog...they broke her off and holding her gingerly due to her injuries, she was just about bled out....and the hog got away on the other end of the pen, and she jerked away and caught him again...she went unconscious due to blood loss/shock...in hold....i personally do not believe they are game...but i am not sure how much closer one could get than that...
my buddy was there to pay for an AB pup and i told him i didnt know jack shit about AB's but if i were buying she would be what i was buying off of....but that is just me....US1

  2. I've never heard of a Pit going hours on end with a hog either... i've heard about them fighting equal, pound for pound dogs though but then i don't know anyone who fights dogs (if i did i'd beat the crap out of them) so i have no experience with that kind of thing. Horses for courses innit. But from what you describe as gameness, going at things even when badly injured, then i'll still stand by and say AB's are very "game".
Read the post above by slim12 as an example. That dog probably went out and did her job again when/if she recovered.

well i wouldnt really wanna do that to a dog

but i hear you,you are saying that is the extent of damage it takes to prove real gameness

Other dogs can have no care for self preservation and have a motor that won't quit. Any individual dog can be game regardless of its breed, it is just more prevalent in the pitbull because its a bred trait. but there is only one way to find out...

Not stopping when winning (or mostly winning) and going back to a BAD BAD BAD ass kicking are different things.....

Noone, not even folks who fight/match dogs, WANTS to do that to a dog, BUT what we do want is that IF that happenes to the dog, the dog will make the choice to go back to something that is hurting him badly and not give up and curr out.... NOW the Responsible thing of the dog's handler would be to pick the dog up before his life is in danger, but if he's tired and week, he should still WANT to can back to what is causing such condition...

Bobby, your wasting your time trying to get them to understand. They never will. Just let them beleive what they want you and them will both be happier this way, lol!

of course, but i don't believe this is limited to one kind of dog. I agree that the ratio of dogs that turn out with these qualities is probably an incredible number of times more in an american pitbull than any other dog or animal in general. but they are still dogs, and another is capable of doing the same. Terriers in general ignore the laws of self preservation, i believe its just magnified in the APBT cuz they are tested so hard over and over again. im just sayin, IMO it is possible for another animal other than a pitbull to be on deaths door step and still turn back for more. but the numbers are obviously far less and if u wanted a dog who had these traits a APBT would be the only sensable choice.

come on WD! now no dog comes anywhere close to match the apbt as far as gameness, no1 will argue against that. But do u call other working breeds who hope back on a hog even with their insides hanging out? IMO that goes beyond drive. Venom really made me think on that one. I dont want to call it gameness but i dont know what else to call it....

There are few Pitbulls that will run back into death let alone another breed of dog. There isn't a working breed on the planet other then a pitbull that can acheive that level of gameness.

if others think a test against badger deems a bull terrier worthy of being called game...do these same people think the same when it coes to abs with hogs?

i know its a whole different level. My question is what do you call a hog dog that hops back on a hog with his/her guts hanging out? I dont consider that game but at the same time that is beyond drive...
Pre 76 i imagine that same dog would prob be jumpin over walls like the cops were after em

I don't think a test can be done without extreme exaust and serious injury. I really don't know much about hogs and hunting them with dogs, so i really cant say. Only way to test gameness that i know of is combat.

But to say only one animal is capable of ever willingly going back into deaths way after taking an incredible amount of punishment is some wild thinking. But everybody has their own opinion, with all the dogs in the world neither can be considered fact.

bred for different things? Id call a small terrier hunting a badger if taken alot of damage game but not a pitbull...test gameness with each breed doing what it was bred for...true to type

he means if he knew of someone fighting dogs he would beat the shit out of them

and i cant say i really disagree tbh

there have been some people round here caught recently fighting dogs
and you should have seen the state of them bro, i cant agree with that shit

im not saying everyone who does this is a scumbag

but some well known dog fighters (eg the farmers boys) are, lets just say, not very nice people LOL
