Hi Dyslexic, read it again, I said that WAS BACK WHEN, KC reg'd dogs WERE big strong dogs, I was referring to 1980s when a male stafford in a show would have been 18 inch plus to the shoulder and weighing an average of 40 - 55 pounds, I was NOT referring to the modern show dog of today.
"should've gone to spec savers" then school lol

Lol red barron u mustv been looking at staffords back then from above in ur tiger moth and not seen them right . Look at the pictures from dogs from the 70's and 80's. They r drastically different to current dogs.

Exactly my point Tommy, but then look at his first comment > "only joined this site and some people just aint got a clue"
I could dissagree with some, I can agree with many on here, but I'd never assume my taste or experience of staffords should be to the taste of others,
ohh if he was in my yard the day the Red Boy demolished his new kennel door to get out he would soon retract his statement about there being no big strong staffords?? how long did it take him?? lol

Lol think u might b right there, kennel didn't last long. Nor did digging the yard down and highering the fence lol. But guess that means nothing. Current staffords are 'ALL' rubbish lol

There are few very few left but I think there maybe more out there than we think. Just owned by people who know what they've got and arnt interested in sharing or wouldn want hassled by people looking for pups as pets or status symbols. Like I said in earlier post men who 'worked' their dogs were tight lipped and kept to their own small circles. The idea of advertising these dogs is far from their minds and who can blame them when we look at current general stock. As for pitbulls being better than staffs. As far as I'm concerned they were all bred from the same stock right at the start, bull dogs crossed with terriers. They fought in the pit regardless of height, colour, weights, shape, colour of nose. The dogs that won were bred from. This was the foundation of the sbt, apbt, the ebt. The only difference being the fanciers at the time beginning to breed for aesthetics. The hinkley breeding of the ebt, the kc ruining the sbt then the apbt was lucky enough to be kept game and evolved just a lil further but look at very early examples of all 3 and they r very very similar. The apbt is slowly being destroyed by idiots breeding bully shaped rubbish. Fingers crossed they don't end up as scarce as good sbt's. I like all 3 dogs and to b honest I'm not hung up on bloodlines, or big famous named dogs. A good example of any of these breeds is a fine dog. The fact that one dog beat another dog is to b quite honest a factor for me. These dogs were bred to not back down. So as long as they'v got that spirit and are prepared to back it up with everythin they have that's what makes the breed and why we all loved them in the first place before betting started and there was money to be made. Greed ruined the breed as well as all the factors that have been discussed for years now. Sorry rant over folks.

You are incorrect. For sure there was staffords around of similar type
but they would have been few & far between. That era,the dogs at the shows were mostly of a similar & typical type, which would have been close to the breed standard. They have went downhill since imo but there is still some nice looking kc dogs around.

now we're talk'n , now im agreeing with you.
Yet one question for my self only for entertainment, how did they the change what was a pit dog at one time, fast enough to meet the show standard in 1935 and shorten its height and keep its weight. Also how does one have a registered Staff that is a pitbull meaning it is far from the show standard and is physically a bulldawg in looks? There are enough pics on the Staff forum of Staffs that look pitbull that are registered as Staffs

when the breed was first shown many that was shown ware over the hight standard...when dogs become show champions they are the dogs that most offspring come from and as show champions are closest to the kc standard its pretty quick that the breed changes, they then reduced the hight in the late 1940s and champions after that date did produce most offspring again the breed changes...just in recent times when i was young the stafford was a good looking dog, then comes dogs like PRINCE NACEEM, now the whole breed of show staffords seem to have tiny mouths bug eyes spindley narrow legs and a stumpty body ? its the new look of staffords ...

thanks 4 putting it up...does he rep what a stafford is ? the kc show stafford is now like a toy dog...i seen this dog being shown and if he was to be put in a fit shape for a dog fight, i juess he would be 22lbs...maybe less..he is a toy dog not a staff..he is a true rep of the way staffs are going, tiny mouth, bug eyes, weak body, a TOY dog

Agree this is a sorry example of a dog ..and what most pass as a stafford..but as long as there are those of us working to maintain our breed. This does not have to be where it must go.
A.W.,do you still keep staffords if so I doubt this is the type you feed .

i forgot to add that she is obviously a show stafford,
so i just smile to my self when people think all modern KC staffords are bug-eyed stumpy things.
