To make a long story short I'm taking my dog out on the bike the neighbors dogs always runs free but as I'm going down the drive way their two dogs come at me not the first time this has happen but usually i can scare them away well my dog cut under the bike between the two tires I let go of the leash when me and the bike flipped my dog ran after my neighbors dog and I ran after my dog well they got into a fight and he comes out of his house I'm not even 10 feet away and he shoots my dog. Now if there is anyway that any of y'all have some advice about how I can handle this situation or knows the laws in georgetown county please help me because he called the cops and they said he had the right to shoot my dog to protect his property and that just don't seam right to me

Well you did let go of your dog and he did shoot it on his property from what u saying so by right he can. Now there isn't much u can do "legally" but I wouldn't want me as your next door neighbor after that. Have u talked to him concerning this? Maybe u csn provide more info. Sorry for your loss.

I bike with my dog all the time.I'm always scanning for any distraction.I never attatch dog to bike.I ride one handed other hand on leash and allow very little slack.biking with a dog can be dangerous .If you know loose dogs were on your route it was very unwise to ride that way.Your neighbor prob overreacted but you were in the wrong

no one ever said it was but you shouldn't have gotten your dog in that situation either and the owner of the other dog damn sure did the wrong thing like i said accidents happen, people fuck up all we can do is learn and move on

Also, just a fyi I bike the dog with an attachment to the seat post to the collar and a leash from the collar to my hand on the handle bars. This ensures the dog stays within reach where it should be.

Thats a shame.Biking with any type of dog is dangerous but with APBT it's even more so.With the drive and strength of the apbt if they see a squirell they'll pull you of the bike. That really sucks to me thats just EGO driven and someone that hates apbt.

Also like I said I'm always scanning for distractions so I can make sure I have control (no slack in leash is amust at this time)and his attention.if there's slack in the leash and the dog sees something and gets a running start he gone snatched yo ass right along with him.

If the neighbors dogs ALWAYS run free, why wasn't this handled before? Did you complain to the neighbor? Were you two not on good terms?
Sounds kinda funny he would be out that quick to shoot your dog....UNLESS he was baiting your dog all the time, to get a chance to play the glory boy and kill a "vicious pitbull."

Nothing you can do about this but live and learn...Neighbor must have been a cur like his mutts though...
My neighbors Johnson American Bulldog ran at one of my dogs in the yard....
And I let my dog handle that big mutt. Neighbors wanted charges on me, but cop pointed at chain and says, "this dog is chained up, why isn't yours?"
POINT: Just like we like the laws that give us the right to protect our property, so do other people.
If you are gonna bike it, learn to hold on. To cross under you just had to brace leash on top bar of frame.
I had to learn that trick myself, as well as how to "fall" in case of distractions the dog can't ignore.
