More to come when they finish uploading....
Note: A picture doesn't prove shit, it only shows how a dog looks, which is only a glimps into the dogs overall physical health.

Scratchin Dogs Gr Ch Angus has been fed raw for years she is a member here and this dog is outstanding hands down one of the best looking bulldogs I have ever seen in top notch shape on raw . It doesn't get much better than this ...

    Limey.
What is the date of the post you made about feeding the dogs? the date of the study? If it were there I missed it. S

Never mind. I found it. I have a read a study recently where the fat contents have been drastically increased. Personally I have fed lots of fat for a number of years, especially prior to the keep, thru the keep and then up the protein post race. I will try to find it and post it here. S

Just my 2 cents and im 98 cents short of having a point. I got a 13yr old who's been feed kibble(pro plan performance) his whole life and his teeth look nothing like that 8yr old pugs , nor does his breath stink like sewage. I will admit he hasn't seen a vet in 7 yrs since his last rabies shot. So I don't think vetnairy medicine has helped him live this long. He has never looked as toned as the one's posted above but then again never was in the need to be work to that extent. Anyways I would have to agree with Slim on this subject. As I know a man who conditioned a world renowned "GrCh" and he said " he feed a little of this and a little of that , over kibble" but one of his student feeds raw and will put $$ behind it that's it's better. All in all this is a great thread that provide a lot of food for thought , thanks to all who have submitted the info so keep it coming.

It pretty much boils down to personal preference. For every kibble health nightmare there are ten 'kibbled' dogs that done wonders and lived a long healthy life. Personally I have fed both ways off and since as far back as 1987/88. I 'think' for overall health and longevity that RAW is the way to go. But at the same time I can't say I fed a 1000 dogs and have any scientific facts to support my opinion. It is what I see working. Like the study up above. I do not have the scientific background to argue back and forth. With that said, I have found far better results in bulldogs with a higher fat content weeks before the work starts, more during the work and a transition to a higher protein ration afterwards. Dogs can be worked harder and stay cooler on the high fat diet. At least for me anyway. S

Been bisey for the last week . i see the debate here is going on., and looking at the hits tis topic is a good one and of intrest..
With the ecseption of the last dog shown! who is looking very wel to say the least, the other dogs above do NOT look at peak condition to me. On another forum i alredy mentiond that as the same pictures where placed. a wel bred ore proportiond dog would look good having him stand up streching his muscle tone if he has no condition on him at all. As it is wel conditioned dogs do not cary lots of fluid witch most of the above dogs DO show.raised hair line on the back from ass to nek standing up is a lack of balanse minerals and vitamins!!as lack of shape and opend up hair coats. Rib bone showing in one way ore the other has to do how the dog is bred and wat his confermation and muscle tone build up is.. This discussion was a good one. but as stated befor the Kibble diets are the ones being the most sientificly research in dept umongst high end working dogs diets.. Wherther you feed raw ore Kibble CHOOSE WIZELY . follow your brain not your nostalgic harth...

This is where I beg to differ. There are no scientific research being done for diets in the high end working dog, if the working dog is a bulldog. They can do these tests and studies on greyhounds, as well as sled dogs. Even for the high end working dogs doing Sch and IPO, and service work. There is no science dept. anywhere that is feeding the dogs a certain way and then doing bulldog things with them to see which works better.
People doing bulldogs can use this information and experiment and find what works for them. Kibble or RAW. But when they do find something that works or does not work the only place they can report their findings is a place like this, and there is very little base for scientific study on a dog message board. When it comes to bulldogs and doing bulldog things it is an 'each to his own' world, and again, there is no science in that, mostly it is an art.
The greyhound does not have to sustain maximum effort/output for as long as a bulldog when both are going all out in their perspective areas of expertise. A sled dog does not have to dodge and dart, and stop and go and explode multiple times over any give period in a long distance race. A service dog, although tensed and using energy, is allowed to rest between events, even if it is at a heel to the next spot. A bulldog has to power and push from position to position, explode in different directions, carry the weight of another, and the 'rest' is not until the first scratch, whenever and if ever that happens.
With that said, a bulldog must pretty much do all of what the others do, just at a higher level for longer periods of time. So these scientific studies based on the work of others can be used as a guide, but the bulldog guy must draw from all the others 'theory' and then apply it to the 'real'. S

Them kibble manufacturers are doing scientific studies on how to get a dog to eat what it shouldn't be eating in the first place, they put all sorts of kak in them kibbles and spray the stuff with stuff to get the dog to eat actually eat the rubbish, a raw BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE diet is the way to go when feeding a dog. the dog will be much healthier. Kibble Kills.

    this is so true!

ok I have stayed out of this but wanted to add my 2 cents of experience on the Raw Vs Kibble front.

my dog is 4 years old, he is lucky he made it to 4 because kibble made him nearly die, it wasn't from bloat or a bad bag, it wasn't from one brand, one manufacturer, heck it wasn't even from 1 country. It was the fact that kibble uses the same basic ingredients with changes to the top portion of proteins and where they get the calories that nearly cost my boy his life. He did fine on kibble for a year and a half, didn't look great, I went from low quality up to ok quality (TOTW) to so so quality because it had more cal/cup (forget think it was diamond natural EA) and I noticed over the year and a half that he by the time he hit the mark he was a little thin, not to bad. I put him on Earthborn holistics for winter to try to build him up because it had even more cal/cup and was grain free. Well he didn't gain weight but didn't lose it so I figured I had something that might work, kept him on it for another few bags, he is now a bit over 2 years, and I notice he just doesn't have energy, well I swap him again because well his coat was not looking good either. He is now on Orijen, and though he gains his coat, and its almost a mirror, he is losing weight eating 2 times what the recommendation is for him. I am getting close to my breaking point, I am now pregnant and do not know what to do with him, I don't want to lose him he has been with me through some stressful times. I have heard of the PMR diet and had a freezer, 2 weeks before my daughter is born I put him on it, its my last hope before thyroid testing (he has been to the vet a few times over this time and the vet had no answers either) and within weeks he starts gaining weight. Now he is 4 and a half years old, has more energy than he has EVER had and looks great (looking better every day as he is now recreational weight pulling).

I know my boy is not every dog, but something has to be wrong with kibble in general if that is the result that happens when a dog is on it, I have heard of 1 other dog that has had this happen, and I am sure there are more out there.

this is not even him at his worst but it really does show a difference

All very good points, Glad to see this topic really take off as well. It should be important to all who feed dogs and especially those who work those dogs. Go with what works best for you. I use both, it works for me. Might not work best for you. Limey makes some real good points. At the end of the day though, I will always feel Raw is much heathier in the long run. To each his own really. :p

Curious as to how the people who feed raw go about getting it in bulk if you have over 5-10 dogs? I've always been interested in trying to make the switch to raw, but affordability does play a role in what I feed. I love my hounds and would definitely love to spare no expenses, but the facts remain money doesn't grow off trees.

Any insight on how to go about getting raw feed in bulk at an affordable working mans price would be greatly appreciated.

    Godbless,
    S1

i get chicken at around 26 cents a lb at a local county farms and I also get steak by the whole loin and cut it down myself for my family every 2 weeks but i get about 10 - 15 lbs of fat and about 5-10 lbs of good quality strip steak I grind up or cube. I can also get any other meats, lamb, turkey, fish caught locally and organ meat along with damn near any greens or veggies fresh from the farm. Eggs, yogurt and also scrap meat from trimmings of grade A meats for cheaper than a bag of kibble. I add a multi-vitamin too just so I don't have to get extremely technical with feeding. Also becoming a hunter and harvesting your own animals helps really cut costs without sacrificing quality of your animals diet... ;)

Meat Wholesalers are another good place. if worse comes to worse Walmart has some cheap cuts of meat but buying it that way would probably get expensive since you cant get it in bulk there.
