    Hi
    Was wandering what different methods you use for strength training. I'm aware of the following;
    1. Carpet Mill
    2. Weight Collar
    3. Drag chain during walk
    4. Weighted Harness

How do you get the dog to work as hard/intensity as he does on a carpet mill, with the other 3?
    Do you add more sets?
    Thanks

It will be hard to get the intensity of a carpet mill with the other three. Maybe with a bike or four wheeler, or maybe having another dog out front to keep him jacked. Pulling chains is usually a slower steady pull over distance/time. It builds strength but it is not an intensive exercise, effective, but not as intense.

Figure out a way to all-out sprint the dog. Repeated sprints can be amazing. S

I have dog that's 50% game bloodline 50%staff line built like a game dog but has staff type colering. His favorite thing was springpole until I hooked a rope to a weight machine one with cables and you can adjust the weight from 10-150pounds. The rope hooked where the leg curl is. Anyway I got him up to 80pounds where he will yank and shake and sometimes just tug like he on a springpole and he only 45ish-50. He doesn't want his springpole now that he has this and will go up to a hour non stop depending on Weight

    Thanks for all the replies
    Next question:
What's your rule of thumb for the amount of weight to start with?
    How much do you increase?
    When do you increase?(weekly/daily)
    Thanks

Flirt pole to work on sprinting and making fast turns. builds up wind for short busrts. Also I sit in the trunk of car while wifey drives slow with dog on leash. You can only do this obviously in rural areas. Tire pull down the block on a harness, and I still use a "cat-mill" of sorts..minus the cat. I take an old pair of my jeans, and use it to play Tug with a dogs for a few days, then I attach it to the Cat mill. It is loaded with my scent and some dogs Will chase it for a long time.

I use to be big into weight lifting so I use alot of the methods .

when I first was getting him use to it. I used low weight to not get him frustrated or discouraged. Now I start about half the max he likes to do once he gets going I'll put it up to his max and let him wear down. Once he starts lagging. I'll cut it in half and let him burn out.

    I
basically watch the dog if say its on #50 and he tearing shit up I know he can do more and increase it. I also occasionally have him stop for couple mins and it allows him to go max level again

What are you training for, the track or the woods? This breed is naturally strong so you don't need a ton of strength work unless you just want them to look cocky. With these dogs, you want Bruce Lee...not Lee Haney.

One thing that worked/works for us is to play catch with someone with a cong ball as the dog is chasing it. Stand 40-50 yards apart from the other guy and chuck away!! Have the dog drag in between you two, basically it's suicide drills like in basketball practice. When I throw the ball, my partner will get it and throw it right back. I'll get it then keep the dog on interested and on his feet for 30 seconds...(recover!!) the throw it again. Just know the difference between the dog being bored and having muscle fatigue. Hope this helps.

Manual resistance is an easy modality to use.
Walk/bike the dog in harness with some kind of lure in front of him. Your weight and strength provides the resistance. This builds endurance-strength.
When I was a teen I walked dogs next to a lake. The geese and ducks just off shore would have the dog lunging, jumping, dragging me, etc......
This is good for building absolute strength and power
