Concerete bowls with a handle

I can make some pretty good bowls but I like to keep them clean. It gets kind of spooky since I have to actually put my fingers under the bowl in the dirt to lift the bowl up to dump it and clean. Does anyone have any ideas or pictures with bowls with a handle to make lofting easier?
I have an idea but I would have to make my bowl upside from how I am making them now then put a bent piece of rebar for the handle.

lol Quit being a baby what do you want your dog to losoe some teeth because you don't want to put your hands under the bowl . Tip it over if you can .

Make concrete bowels and use a metal bowl as an insert. Problem solved.

I screw a hook in the side of their dog houses and use it to hold the handle of a 2 gal bucket. Keeps it off the ground and from spilling. Done it for years.

Or do what old goat says. Lol its just a little dirt.

Lol old goat I feel you man but I don't want to be 70 years old still doing it the same way. I'm trying to work smarter not harder.
Thanks AGK I asked someone and they told me to look at AC yard video and he has them like I was talking about.

It's not smarter if your dog doesn't have any teeth that's all . Give the dog something to chew on and they will . Not all will but it will only take 1 to change your mind .

To make lifting em easier when complete. Pin a couple of bits of hose tubing to the outer edge of the mould on the bottom. Obviously bung up the ends of the hose.

AGK has the best advice IMO with recessing a metal bowl in the cement,,,
and clean it easier and its far more sanitary than concrete even if sealed proper I find it hard to believe
the seal and or cement wont break down in the water after years of use...

Another style of cement bowl I seen had some type of drain with a rubber cork recessed in a hole
that had to be inserted and taken out with pliers...

Good idea Eli I never thought of that. I already have a bucket for an insert.

Thanks man. Can't say if they will last a lifetime but them are 5 years old and that is the first one I made. They are 80lbs and hold 2.5 gallons.

About 6 months ago or so I made a handful of these. I mostly use them without the bowl in them because the bigger dogs usually knock it out but I keep it in for the pups. Works good.

Thanks, moe. I just use mine for food. The dogs here get the barrels cut down to 15-20 gallons. No way I could just have 2 gallons with as hot as it is here. The dogs use them to cool down and drink from. Can't beat that in this Texas heat.

I have never seen one with so called handles. I did know a guy who's form had a lip to the inside. It served as a handle to flip the bowls when cleaning. Funny thing is he tried to re-make the form and it did not do the same thing. Weird how that works.

Mine are straight concrete. I have seen the ones with stainless bowls inserted. They may erode with time. Worst I have seen is chipping around the edges due to flipping when cleaning.

I need the barrels cut down but I have retarded Red Boy dogs. I have a couple that get their morning drink and then stand their front feet in the bowls. I clean bowls just about every day. Some of the not retarded ones can get an empty, rinse and re-fill. Some get the mud cleaned out every day.

Most of mine are like that too, Slim. Sludge/mud at the bottom when I clean it out because of getting in and out. Like you said, some of them right after a clean/fill lol. I keep a rag hung out on a tree out there so I can clean them often. I hate it but I swear even with all of these trees and the shade boards the dogs are pretty warm out there during the summer. Luckily this summer has been relatively good to us. Only a handful of days 100 or more thus far.

Plus, I look at it like this. If the dog folks ever come questioning the care they get, there's no way they can say I don't give them enough water. If 15-20 gallons isn't enough, what is?

I figure it's a triple whammy for me.

Looks good, Thunder. Mine are used for food for the bigger dogs but if I had them for water I would be concerned about them being lighter. If tipped over then obviously the dog is out of water on a hot day. I'm sure you have it figured out for your situation just the first thing I thought of.
