I would say the use of dex but I don't know as I don't follow what D. Mayfield did. I'm pretty sure that somewhere in this thread, I already had stated that I didn't know.

No idea what your talking about with that last paragraph. BBD didn't do anything with Geach. He didn't own him and I have no idea where you would get that from, probably the internet. S. West owned and showed Cardnal (GEACH, the dog who's name no one's seems to be able to spell correctly), not BBD. No idea what your talking about with the Geach isn't sharing comment. The only thing I need for him to share is his seed which he has done just fine for me. I only speak and comprehend plain English. I don't understand that sideward talk.

Ok, not to get off topic Lemm was on point because the heart will determine how hard a dog is working. Dogs have different fitness levels but heart rate will determine how an individual dog is working. Lemm chose a slat mill which is a very blunt tool when conditioning dogs because two dogs fighting is an anaerobic activity and a slat mill is an aerobic conditioning tool.

Mayfield was on point on several things. You have to take the dog back to the wild and Don's later years especially in his chat he would talk about it. The sodium purge, hormones and his use of performance enhancing drugs were way before his time. The jenny was a lazy mans way of conditioning multiple dogs and the way Mayfield had dogs work the jenny was not only a waste of time but also cruel! Don walked the matches out of a lot of his dogs and that was Lemm's argument on why he was a better conditioner.

Why is a carpet mill superior to a slat mill?

    Carpet Mill
    An anaerobic conditioning tool
Burns fat at a much higher rate
Burns fat 24/7 not just when operated
    Can be used aerobically
    Develops strength and power
Maximizes anaerobic capacity, endurance and more importantly anaerobic recovery
Gives the best bang for the buck in time management or if time strapped
Developes muscle pumps faster and longer

Mayfield before he died changed a lot of his keep looking back in hindsight and if you were fortunate to jump in his chat he would talk for hours about conditioning. Alot of times Don would give you the smoke and mirror trick when talking about Bears and wolves but he was revolutionary when it came to diet. It wasn't until Don found out that he had cancer that he changed his diet and started growing his own food. He also realized how bad kibble is for dogs in keep because it's so processed and that process is the reason why you will never maximize nutrition using kibble.

Don would talk about how when feeding you have to take a dog back to the wild. He would talk about a dog in keep would go on several hunts a day in the wild to keep the metabolism going and basically stay alive. Don was talking about feeding multiple times a day to get back to nature's way of a dog in the wild. A lot of Don's true facts went unnoticed because people thought he was a burnt out redneck.

Don talked about hormones whether it was adrenaline or insulin. He talked about why he stopped shooting dogs up with adrenaline because it would block the natural fight or flight response when in a match. A dog wouldn't naturally produce it when shot up and it affected performance dramatically. He would talk about insulin and how it was way more powerfull than testosterone! Don explained how the timing of meals, what's fed in those meals and how certain foods spiked insulin.

This is just a small glimpse in what Don knew and how things he learned over the years and before his death.

Years ago when I was training some athletes I started reading a book about nutrient timing. The premise of the book is about replenishing nutrients at the right time and the right amount.look in your store cooler and you will see pre and post workout drinks now made by Gatorade lol...The book Im talking about was written years before Gatorade picked up on it,and it looks like Don was years ahead of his time:)

I wish I would have known about the chats back then. I would have been a sponge.

I will disagree on him walking the match out of his dog, along with it being cruel. It is by far the most effective tool when measuring time/distance and hear rate. The Lemm video even demonstrates the usage of the Jenny.

Don Mayfield was far ahead of his time in diet and supplementation. The guys that owned and worked Young's Tina and Young's Face were somewhat pupil's of Don's way back then. Get up close and the work times in the videos were a crock of shit. They were out there the days he was moving from hand walking/slat milling to the Jenny. The guy that turned me onto dogs as a kid stayed out there for about three to four weeks in the late 70's. Not exactly a college class with textbooks but a class the same.

He brought back a bunch of the feeding principles and work principles. I remember when he brought home an old school Merry-go-Round. I thought we had a new play toy. After welding some arms on it the slat mill and the carpet mill began to gather dust.

Great topic. Hopefully someone's mom will not have to wear combat boots before some good information is exchanged. Just saying. LOL. S

The key to Lemm or Mayfield is recognizing that magical point when enough is enough for today. With Lemm the stop watch and heart rate allowed you to mark progress. One of the best ever at seeing when a dog was done for today was Mr. O. Stevens. Another was Mr. Colopy.

The equipment was just another variable. The key is when to stop and when to re-start. Nail that down and the equipment moves over more into the personal preference category. My personal preference is the carpet mill. Until I recently built a table. The table is an entirely different dog. I am still working on the WHY's, but it is a different dog. I still use the carpet mill but the table is becoming the staple.

Oh no not another mayfield cult follower. LMAO....only mayfield cult followers will use the word "CRUELTY", along side with dog fighting. LMAO....at least Slim seen that part. lol

I am not going to get into all the other points of what mayfield said about salt , hormones, drugs etc. etc....

Everything you said about the Carpet mill can pertain to the Slatmill as well, it just DEPENDS on ones Slat mill as not every slat mill turns as freely as Lemms. But with that said even the freest turning mill in the world which is a Emill can be used to add those same qualities as a carpet mill that you mention if one utilizes the emill/slat mill in a certain way to make it more ANAEROBIC ......it seems you are just going off of what mayfield said about a carpet mill being way superior to a slat mill and not going by actual hands on factual experiences.....There is only one aspect of Carpet mill that is superior to a slat mill that you did not mention but I am not telling you or anyone. LOL

It seems for some mayfield cult followers the smoke and mirror tricks did not just work or pertain to just bears and wolves alone. LMAO

Explain animals hunting several times per day. Explain feeding a dog several times per day. Actually animals hunt til they kill and lay around and charge up after that. I am not sure how one would feed a dog several/multiple times per day and achieve the same thought process. Very difficult.

The same benefits you listed for a carpet mill can be obtained with a slatmill. Don Mayfield never used a carpet mill of today. The free-est turning carpet mill back then was the Colby. Most were old school carpet with jute backing, sliding on sanded plywood and sliding over stationery PVC pipe. Most every carpet mill now is on some sort of polymer surface, a lighter backed carpet/belting material and the same bearing/roller set up as the nicest slat mills. The carpet mill I build can get 3 1/2 to four revolutions with a single hand pull. That is as free as a lot of slat mills.

I believe Mr. Mayfield revolutionalized a lot in the dogs. If he were living today he would more than likely switch up again. Things move forward. What he did do with the Jenny is keep a dog's feet on the ground. If you can get a dog to chase a ball all in an all out sprint time and time again. That $2 ball is worth more than any mill on the planet, carpet or slat.

Slim the problem is not getting a dog to chase the ball , its getting him to release the ball on command without having to use a break stick every single damn time. LOL Plus depending on the type of ball some destroy a ball in a matter of seconds lol.

Very true. Of all the dogs I have ever seen conditioned there was one female that stands out. She was freak for a ball. We mad a ball out of rolled up socks, maybe the size of a grapefruit. We stood 20-25 yards apart an threw the ball back and forth. She went after it like her life depended on it for as long as you wanted to throw it.

I have never seen a dog stronger for longer than she was. Simply chasing a ball. The explosion, the speed, the changing of direction, the digging, the acceleration. Awesome.

Doing it by yourself would be a tough job.

One again let's review some scientific facts that anyone can fact check with Google.

Two dogs fighting is an anaerobic activity

Anything done anaerobically can be done aerobically but anything done aerobically can not be done anaerobically

Humans and canines respond almost identically to diet and exercise

In the wild wolves eat whenever and whatever they can. If a pack is tracking a herd or single moose, caribou or deer in the meantime in between time if they/it comes across a rabbit while tracking they will eat it. Whether it's fruits or vegetables wolves will eat especially while tracking because they are scavengers.

The benefits of eating several times a day is obvious, it's 2016 and everyone has the ability to google information. Here are some of the benefits of multiple feedings.

    More energy
    Less hunger
    Control blood sugar levels
    Control insulin production
    Reduce body fat storage
    Consistent protein levels
    Increase muscle mass
    Increased metabolism

Ok now for the carpet mill vs slat mill comparison it's not even close which is superior, reread the benefits in my previous post concerning the benefits of the carpet mill.

You may have me confused because I'm not a Mayfield fanatic. Don's wisdom when he was staring his mortality in the face changed a lot of the way he thought because of cancer. He was definitely enlightened as many people are when reflecting on how they could have done things differently especially when you don't know if you would live to see next week.

It is cruel to have a dog walk a jenny for 6+ hours in the Texas heat when quicker results and better results could be obtained with a very simple H.I.T. workout on a carpet mill. If you don not know what H.I.T. is, google it. I always speak from a scientific point of view with scientific facts and personal experience.

Don before he died dropped a lot of gems and his facts on diet and water were cutting edge! I have pups and dogs that have never had tap water it's either at the minimum filtered water, reverse osmosis or alkaline water. All my dogs in keep eat hormone free and antibiotic free meat. All my dogs in keep eat organic fruits and vegetables. I have even started experimenting with my elderly dogs with cannabis oil. Don's knowledge is the reason why I started hydrating during workouts with creatine and protein for over a decade now. Love or hate Don he was the truth when it came to being a pioneer on many levels!

not stirring nothing up but just testing your great knowledge,,,
the thing that I am asking about is not in this written mayfield keep persay ,,,
he shares his written keep but holds back on the key ingredient that helped him dry his dogs so thin
and yet have all the power and longevity as a wetter dog...
this gave him an edge as his dogs were bigger and performed better...

the answer is one word thats three letters and I can almost guarantee any dogman in the south
that are consistently winning know the answer yet the formula may vary...

a friend said it was invented by a blackman which counters the hat and is ironic that
the man with the hat and dog with a vulgar name mastered drying dogs with this ingredient...

any takers on the answer???...(AS IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THIS THREAD)...

no offense giving or taking to the chosen five...

So are you saying because he could of done it better , Dons old ways of conditioning a dog is cruel? LMAO.....its so ironic one using the term cruel in conditioning a dog especially when it pertains to a illegal activity deemed cruel by majority of our society. LMAO You do seem confused since you actually believe a Carpet mill is superior to a slat mill which is a symptom of a mayfield fanatic. LMAO
