So basically all game staffords after 1950 were accidents? I'm not disputing what your saying just interested to know

all SBT by 1950s ware bred for showing and by show people,,, all the field working dogs came from show dogs ,,

I know the KC staff is a show dog but what happened to the working pit dogs of the British isles that didn't go over the pond to create the APBT? Did they still eventually get registered as Staffordshire Bull Terriers or were they a dog with no name?

I'm guessing the former because for a "show dog" there's been some cracking dogs over the years that have done well in the hardest game of all.

There's a big difference between the grotesque creatures that parade the show ring and the dogs that have competed in the trials and in the pit.

Both have been labelled the same but the working dogs are basically the same dogs that went over the pond to create the APBT.

I reckon the lads who kept the working staffords in ireland and britain in the 70s and 80s,wish they had kept those lines going, instead of getting totally in to the pits,i mean in regard to everything that has happened after the DDA. those dogs could have been really starting to breed true now.It could have been like history repeating itself.

When i see these modern show staffords,i think they look absolutely fucking grotesque, iwas out for a walk today in the sun,it was quite warm this guy was walking these two creatures,i thought they were going to keel over any moment ,they could hardly walk let alone run, huge heads, extra short muzzles 16 inches and about 55 pounds in weight. The people who are breeding these animals shoul be the ones the rspca shoud be prosecuting for cruelty.Totally gross.

I doubt any do, the Staffords weren't good enough. Most of those lines are still being bred today and haven't improved.

I agree they werent good enough at the time ,i saw the difference myself with my own two eyes, but with another 20 years or more of selective breeding and culling, with the dogs used in the same conditions.by now we might have been seeing a superier working stafford.

I doubt it. Stafford breeders tended to rely to much on pedigrees and not on quality of the individual dog.

The SBT ware not good enough thats why people got APBTs ,,,no other reason

But what happened to the pit dogs of the British isles that didn't get engulfed by the show fraternity?

It's only logical that the Yanks improved the breed with their much bigger choice in selection and less heat on the folk taking part.

And you think they all became show dogs? There's been some very handy animals to say they were nothing but show dogs don't you think?

All were absorbed into the SBT. When ww2 broke out a hell of lot of dogs were pts cos of rationing etc. I'm sure many SBT peds were also faked back then, as the breed wasn't kept just in Staffordshire but all peds today show all SBT's descend from dogs kept in Staffordshire. Apart from those few down from the westall line.

There was pit dogs all over the British isles, the staff got famous because that's where the show fraternity made their name.
