Stroking dog's.?????.

Discussion in 'Training & Behavior' started by Soze the killer, Apr 14, 2018.

  1. Hello folks.after watching many videos of dogs doing there sport.I have a question.you see some of these videos I have seen are just rolls.and it's great to research and gain some imput.but I have noticed that in some of these rolls the handlers actually keep stroking their dogs.why?.the videos I have seen are all in Russia.dose anyone else use these methods?.dose anyone disagree with these methods?.I personally have never touched them as far as stroking go's.to handle yes.to break up yes.but I've never stroked them?.is this a good method?.what's everyone's opinion?.do these handlers do this to get the dogs used to being handled?.I'm not saying its right or wrong.I'd just like to learn a bit more on the subject, and get as many opinions as possible.Thanks...............

It's just like petting them for shitting outside or as you walk past your favorite on the yard. Just positive reinforcement and letting them know you approve of this behavior. It wasn't uncommon when the sport was practiced as far as I know..

Of course that was just through schooling or rolls. Any otc or matches hands off except to handle of course.

  3. Thanks for explaining it like that Holocaust.I like the way you say "just positive reinforcement and letting them know you approve of this behaviour." it makes perfect sense..personally I just like to use a" positive voice"..perhaps it depends on the individual dog aswell?.........

I don't see petting zebo mid roll as the best idea lmao.

The combination of both voice and petting used since a pup translates to game day. Some would pet in rolls and I'm sure some wouldn't. All used their voice, clapping, finger snapping, etc.

I'm sure it was up to handler and mutt but LOTS of ppl would pet their dogs during schooling.

Schooling is the only time you can touch the dog and it’s not a foul to lose your money.... even if it’s a small advantage I’ll take it

What makes a Bulldog happier than doing what they love? Getting praised by their handler! It's bonding and confidence building....at least in the old days it was. :)

  7. Thanks for explaining that for me Holocaust.much appreciated.......oh yeah,I agree.petting Zebo mid roll would a bad idea lol...fuck that!!!!!..............

I'd bet Zebo wouldn't have given a shit who pet him during his rolls or shows!

  9. Great answer!.I agree that bonding is very ,very important.better to have a great relationship with your dog, than not.better to no your dogs strengths and weaknesses then to not no them.better to be there for your dog the whole way!!.the dog and man partnership is the strongest of all.Evan stronger then man and woman!.perhaps stronger than man and child!.even a person's most dearest most precious loved one's may turn on them one day......but the dog wont!!!..why?.because as I've just said, the dog and man partnership(or woman and dog partnership).is the strongest there is............

I think several things factor into this, not just positive reinforcement. A good bond with a dog can go a long way in terms of how hard that dog might be willing to go for you, which i believe is why some dogs performed better for different handlers and not so much with others.

While I agree with this I personally don't think petting one in the box was the time to build that bond. The bond should've been built before the animal was even started(or a bonding process gone through before any action if an adult). Though the petting would reinforce to the animal his best friend is right there with him and he's ok I don't think it would build a bond on the fly. Now that' just my opinion and no way the end all be all answer.

Agreed Holocaust. So many folks just "feed em" til they got a good one. Then it's playing catch up in the bonding dept. It really starts at day one, and that includes good health as well.

Nah, i mean in general, it's just overall better for man and dog in many ways.

Yes sir, completely agree! That is why i been selective with the dogs i have. I don't want to many of them where i can't do right by em, if that means less dogs i'm fine with that, ive always been a quality over quantity type of person anyways.

I'e seen yards of 3 that were shit.

Legends who left dead dogs lay around for days-weeks til someone would show up to bury them.

Yards of 100 with clean spots, healthy/happy dogs, and every dog knew the owner as more than just a feed thrower.

Just depends on your dedication level to the dogs. I will say the big difference between the nice yards and the bad ones were internet presence. Shitty yards were always on fb and forums talking them and their dogs up. Good yards didn't even have an account for either. No time too many dogs to mess with it.

Everyone was more dedicated to playing a role online than the dogs they used to get the online clout.

Yeah i would totally have a giant yard if i could handle it and know that the dogs were put first and foremost, the moment you can no longer provide the proper care and time to the dogs, is the moment i would have to down size and hell, i've seen yards of 1 dog look extremely bad!
