Great Information and a very good read. I was told personally a few years back by John R Colby, That Dogmen from all over would come to his Fathers home either to breed there finest bitches with Dime or get a pup , ECT. One thing is I must say as I was told by Lou himself. ( rip) It was a different world then. J.P. or Lou didnt tell their customers what to name a pup, or how to register it ECT. When one bought a Bulldog , Call it what you want. It belongs to you. J.P. gave Howard H. The Best Fighting Dog He had ever seen , If we knew the real truth about how many winning Bulldogs came off of Colby's Dime alone , He would rank up at the Top with some of the other greats that had lots of Colby blood running through there vain's. Loopsey's Buster ROM. was said to be a Colby hound..

    Mr Louis Colby
This is the conditioning story of Colby's Gr Ch. Pepper.
    THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED...
Like Don McLean's song, "American Pie," there is no more "Take Me Out To The Ballgame," "G-d Bless America," and "Go Yankees" at "The House That Ruth Built."

After 85 years, Yankee Stadium (And Shea Stadium, 44 years) has shut its gates, moving across the street to a brand-new ballpark in '09. But since this ballpark was once in a south Bronx orchard, moving to where a track and field, tennis court occupied space brings me very special memories, and as a retired dawgman, I thought it would be nice to share them with you...

Only a few know some 18 years ago IStarted my long five win (One in NE TX) Gr. CH here with Colby Pepper conditioning her on this track where the new stadium now stands. And after each win, and hooked for the next, we came back to this track so early in the AM that no one noticed my doing Colby Pepper's work!

I was totally dedicated; starting @ 10pm, returning around 3am, 5 days a week, for the 3rd & 4th weeks. Doing my long 15-21 mile walks with my road Keep, I used a 15' lead, and while walking Colby Pepper I would let the lead out and pull it back (including walking down thru Spanish Harlem, <you know what its like walking thru this neighborhood as a Anglo with Colby Pepper? It was like Moses parting the Red Sea!> the 6.1 mile circumference around Central Park & back to Mingman's spot). I would immediately pick up my 12-speed motobecane, allowing very little cool down to work Colby Pepper around the track across the street from the Old Yankee Stadium @ 330am. How did I do that? Special props to Mr. Bill, Winchester Kennels for giving me this tip...

I had a special flex-antenna placed on the right handlebar with a 15-foot lead tied to it. Never once was I pulled off my bike, and with nary a distraction in the wee hours of the morning, I would put her thru 5-6 miles (20-24 laps) of 330 Yardbursts, with 110 Yard lopes. Damn, those Colby dawgs are smart! She listened, stayed focuses and "Did Her Work!" There's nothing like working and shaping your bulldawg! I'm of the opinion I never overtrained her; she never was STALE.

So my dogger friends, if you ever visit the new Yankee Stadium to catch some major league baseball in '09 and years afterwards, you'll know that sanspeur shaped 6xw GR CHcolby pepper at the same location where the Yankees have accumulated 26 World Championships.

And I think winning a GR CH is far better than winning a world series ring, correcto-mundo?

A friend of many here on game -dog wrote this I have personally permission to share it from "TDK" Years ago I was catching hell from other members on my belief in The Colby lineage. I do understand why after all these years. To actually get a pure Colby hound from private winning stock isn't easy to do. I'm certain that for a few folks over the years who have gotten a pure Colby hound and paid a higher than working mans price for the pup or pups,
it may not have turned out for them for what ever reason. Even if it did, Paper hanging has been going on for years....

Is there any proof this is an actual letter from Earl? I'm confident Earl never had access to a computer, it is obviously not in it's original form which makes me question it's validity all together.

Absolutely, There are A lot of modern day Dogmen that dispute "Colby's Pincher" record. I have heard it all. Anything from possible 24 winning Rolls, to what have you??? One thing is for sure, Back I'm the late 1880,90s There were recorded matches such as Colbys Tige. He beat Dan Roses Captain in 3 hours 27 minutes. It was a spectacular battle. He was bred to over 40 bithes died September 30th 1906.. So I believe Colbys Pincher record to be true.. I posted a few pics out of Colby's Book of the American Pitbull Terrier..

Pinscher’s pit record is vague, and for that reason he has been a subject of some controversy. However, Colby always referred to him as one of his all-time great dogs, and others who were in the area during Pinscher’s heyday confirm his greatness. He apparently was game and a killing punisher. Most of our dogs have him in their pedigrees if we trace them back far enough. For those who wonder about the name, there were no Dobermans back in those days, and pinscher was the German word for “terrier”. Unfortunately, that leaves us with another mystery: why would an Irishman give the German name for terrier to a box-headed dog like Pinscher?

Colby’s Pincher was a white dog with black patches. He weighed 72 lbs. (32,659 kg), chain and better conditioning weight was 56 lbs. (25,401 kg).

Pincher beat on more than 20 dogs and never found one that could face him over 40 min. He was a working dog in the throat and chest, and his determination was only do in a short period of time. No dog that has fought Pincher and has managed to survive, and served for stud dog, or to guard or fight. His ability to hit was amazing and is rarely found in ordinary pit dogs.

Pincher became one of the most famous dogs in the world fights. Fans came from all over New England to see the great Pincher. Dogmen Boston area throughout the country seeking a dog that could overcome. They invested a lot of money fighting dogs to face against Pincher, who only made them lose their dogs and their money.

The money earned by Pincher battles, stud services and the sale of puppies, resulting in over $ 7,000.00, a record hard to beat for any man and dog.

Pincher was considered the best dog catch weight in the country during his tenure. Fans who got dogs or puppies blood near Pincher highly valued and received good pay for their puppies.

Despite his fighting weight, he was a docile dog to train and loved to do. He possessed a kindly disposition and was very good nature, except when he was in the pit. Pincher lived to be an old dog, but in his later years became blind at what they did everything they could to help. Anyway, he died naturally and went to where all the good dogs fighting.

Lets also keep in mind that this was before Sports medicine such as anabolic steroids, Dex ECT were available. Colbys Pincher would play with other Dogs with the playfulness of a puppy. Provided He wasn't challenged. His offspring was in such high demand that folks who were able to get pups off of him valued them like Gold. The Book that Louis Colby wrote is very well worth buying. He had " Dianne Jessup," co aurtor the book with was smart. A must read in my opinion

McCoy how about you fuck off you know nothing troll.
You think a man like Earl sat at a fuckin typewriter or computer? Unlike you he wasn't a keyboard warrior, he'd of axed your little punk ass for speaking out of turn.

He was an outlaw, he had friends like Pretty Boy Floyd who he took with him to matches. He wasn't exactly a model citizen from first account stories I have been told by guys who were in his company often.

I guess I hurt your feelers on that Eddington post, you really should learn not to assume shit.
