I think this poll terrier thing is pretty much a myth. You can find blue type mongrel terriers all over Scotland but there ratting dogs or general use terriers.

No problem with any color dog performance athletics should always be # 1 I breed lightner hemphill (red) real and pure and Colby (black ) real and pure in 80s and got two I called grey after calling adba to ask what color I should put on papers But The blue short legged dogs today are not Pit dogs and I hate the fact this even have HUNG papers because they are not pure any thing except a nice cute looking Pet ..They run out of wind walkin across a parking lot ..Give them a 1 hr " RUN" THEY WON'T GO 20 MINUTES

Anyone have a picture of a real blue game dog off game lines? I have never seen one and would like to see.

You wouldn't have to add Neo at all.

There was a 1940 AKC champion Am Staf that was blue. HIS parents were some of the first UKC Pit Bulls that came over to AKC to be registered as Staffordshire Terriers. They were black. Dilution ("blue") is recessive. They both HAD to carry dilution ("blue") for the AKC champion to be blue.

If you don't BREED FOR IT, you don't get it often. A lot of it shows up in ASTs because the color was POPULAR and got BRED FOR. But it originally existed in and came from the UKC dogs that came over and joined AKC.

I understand your points and learned something new. I just see a lot of blue dogs that seem to big to be called a Am staff. Myself I would consider a real big Am staff 70-75lb range my neighbors across the street has a blue dog that's 107lbs . At first glance he looks like a monster Am staff but after checking him out his skin around the neck seems extra loose and his mouth is more hangy and drooly than usual, his head is also huge. He is athletic for a huge dog and in good condition. He is a great dog and would probably make a awesome hog catch dog. I like him a lot he keeps a eye on my place and only barks when someone is around that don't belong, excellent guard dog that is quite unless there's a good reason not to be. So that is one reason I still think Neo Mastiff is in the mix on a lot of big blue dogs. Plus I read that a Neo mastiff breeder from back in the day started breeding Am staffs into his mastiffs to try and clean them up and he died before he got the bloodline solid. After his passing a lot of his dogs went out to the public as Am staffs. I can see your points being true when it comes to smaller blue dogs forsure! I weight pull with a stocky blue dog. Thanks for the info.

Parents don't necessarily have to be blue to pass the color on. It only has to be recessive in both parents. If both parents are black but both have the d locus gene as a recessive gene, offspring will come out blue/grey.

D (dilute) locus. This genetic site is responsible for diluted pigment which lightens coats from black or brown to gray or blue or very pale brown.A mutation in the melanophilin (MLPH) gene is the cause of color dilution. The two alleles associated with dilution are D (dominant full color) and d (recessive dilute). It takes two recessives (dd) to lighten black pigment to gray or blue and red pigment to cream.

It would be nice if there were more pictures on some of these older pedigrees.

Interesting. I know it pops out sometimes.
Good info. I remember we had some other threads recently that had lots of info..and other good solid blue dogs..and some lines that seemed to throw them. I seem to think of the Stu Fowler stuff...and also some gforce dogs...????
