I am currently building my own carpet mill, everything is well put together but I'm wondering if my rolling mechanism is correct. I am using a copper coupler as the platform to roll on. Should I use a bolt inside of the coupler to roll on, or should I use a nail?
My thought process is, that the bolt(screw shaped) will cause a lot of wear on the copper coupler.
    What would you guys suggest?

Effective carpet mills can be made rather cheaply. I'm a big fan.

    Post some pictures.

There a thousand ways to make one work.

Quit toying around and hit slim up for plans and rollers...

If the white devil would ever quit working me to death I'd finally get mine built

LOL :)) I hit him up on the DM.
Making a carpet mill without plans is a bitch.

Quality of the plans, keep, and rollers are unmatched. I've used a grand, Colby, and a couple homemade slap togethers... I have no doubt if built with the skill used in the plans youd have the best out of them all.

I'm all for winging it and doing things myself.

My first mill looked like the ends were blasted with a shotgun. I drilled and re-drilled and tried different combinations til there was little wood left to drill.

Over time I tried different rollers, different carpets, different lengths, just about any and everything.

I was not just trying to get a decent carpet mill I was trying to build the one with the perfect gait for the dog. I did not want his legs swinging like a pendulum like a lot of really free slat mills. I also did not want the dog to look like he was towing a boat while running. I pretty much want the dog to run the mill with the same gait and same movement as if he were all out chasing a ball, or a car, or any all out-all natural sprint.

It took a lot of work and a lot of money and a lot of effort.

The most ironic part is that the easiest and cheapest version turned out to be the best one, or at least the one I like most.

Not trying to hawk the plans but they will save some time and effort (and bad words, a lot of bad words).

But I do applaud anyone who does something on their own.

Best of luck with your build.

Yeah, as simple as it gets works best most of the time. Free, stable running is the key.
I prefered balls over cars for my dogs ;)

The on the ground all out sprint is what I was going after, using chasing cars was not well thought out. LOL

And as much as I like the mill, if a dog will repeatedly run all out on the ground, for whatever the reason, he is a leg up on the competition. Nothing beats a dog working with his feet on the ground.

But re-reading the post, chasing cars was not the best choice. LOL

    I too prefer the ball.

Yea Im just gonna try to finish this mill. As a practice mill. I'll eventually get those plans and have some top of the line shit. But I already spent so much on materials I might as well finish

    Good luck with your build.

It is much easier than most think.

Drop me a line if you need anything.

I'm not all that smart, I just managed to make all the mistakes very early on.

    Some I even repeated. LOL

    Best of luck.
