Dog foods that the FDA warn about.

I couldn't believe this list. It's like a handful of what most consider to the best kibble feeds available.

The FDA warns of a possible connection to a serious form of canine heart disease stemming from a diet of these particular 16 brands of kibble. Glad I don't feed any of them.

I was feeding Diamond Naturals for my adults and Diamond puppy for pups for many years. I switched about 3 weeks ago because for the last 3 to 4 months my dogs and pups both have all had very loose stools, basically borderline diarrhea. I tried everything from worming to antibiotics, pumpkin, cottage cheese, yougurt anything I could think of to use to try to curb the diarrhea. I even stopped putting water in their feed and nothing really worked at all.

I switched to Wholesomes brand Chicken formula and within 3 days every dog and pup here was shitting good normal stools again.

These fucking dog food kibbles are killing our dogs. I think I'm going to go back to raw real soon. Why risk their health for my own convience.

    Anyways, here is the list:

Did they site the potential cause/reason? Curious how it would relate to other feed....ingredients, etc...

What i keep running into is taurine, dogs need it for healthy heart function and veggies like peas and lentils seem to block the body from synthesizing taurine. Thats what i keep seeing anyways. I just started looking things up earlier today..

I'll stick with Victor. I don't think they've ever had a recall in their history and it's very affordable.

I read some of it earlier but I did not see that many brands listed. The head line on Yahoo was Rachel Ray's dog food and I guess they went with the 'name that grabs the best headline'.

I fed Diamond some years back and had the same problem. They went from nice stools to shitting thru screen wire. I switched and solved the problems.

If you ever pay attention tot he dog food bag to bag you can see differences in bit size as well as color at times and a lot of times texture. What passes their quality inspection can have a fairly wide spectrum.

    Still a big list tho.

I feed Diamond Naturals also. I have noticed some color change and the stool ranges a bit on the loose spectrum at times. Wonder if storage ..prior to our buy may be some what responsible personally. I have noticed also AGK. ..but I still have a hard time trusting anything with "federal" in the name. Just past experience..

Hope to find out more info.. dig into it everyone..keep us posted on what you find.
I'm going to try to toss a leg quarter 1x or 2 a week see what happens.

Had some of the same issues with Diamond. 2 different bags the dogs threw up after eating from, both had to be thrown out. The occasional loose stool, throwing up,and grass eating I'd had enough of Diamond.

I've never really had the issue before and I have fed diamond products primarily for 22 years. I started out with my first 3 generations being on TOTW then switched to Diamond Naturals for the last decade or so. The last few months though their stools been so runny I had to make a switch.

They all look and act good but I just couldn't deal with the loose stools anymore so I switched to Wholesomes. Cleared right up. I'm going to end up just going back to raw. I had to stop feeding raw becasue I hand mix everything and I've had arthritis in my hands for about 5 years now and hand mixing their diet made me unable to use my hands for like 2 days after making dog food. The pain was really starting to bother me. Plus I need my hands for my job so I went back to kibble.

Got an idea to mix the raw with my drill instead of by hand. Figure it will ease the pain of using my hands to mix everything together. We'll see I guess.

But I am always a sceptic of charts. I'm not sure why..but something tells me.numbers may not lie..but can be miscalculated..
I have certainly noticed. If ya step in it by mistake..or they do..it spreads.(harder to rake) almost need scoop shovel.

May be back to hunting white Easter eggs soon also.(raw turds)
    And hittin up the butchers.

I have Red Boy dogs, so what you listed are more daily snacks than actual meals, but they like both pretty much the same.

I am sure there a lot of variables in the process from making it, to packaging, to storage/delivery to actually feeding the dogs. The big companies should have stability samples on file. When there are complaints the complaints/returns are tested vs. the stability samples. This will put them on the right path if it is part of the production/packaging process or delivery/storage process.

I would imagine certain lots or packaging runs sit somewhere longer than others and I would also tend to think sitting in a 53 foot trailer with an inside temperature over a 100 in the summer would be 'not so good' for the quality of the dog food.

I feed Buddy Boy dog food and it is on the lower end of the spectrum for bag foods. It holds the dogs up well and it gives a good stool. I have fed it off and on for more than 25 years. A couple breaks here and there when the distributorships in out area switched up and have been well satisfied all that time. I do add chicken and meats and greases during the week as well but the dry food is there staple.

My best guess is that Diamond has some stability issues linked to quality control. The preservatives are not mixed thoroughly, homogeneous is the word, ( a big word, like mayonnaise). Some batches leave the plant over preserved and others under preserved. Or possibly the drying/baking process is not complete and the 'wet' food material goes bad during the packaging and delivery phase.

I am not sure. I liked the Diamond feed but when the stools got loose to the point they could shit thru screen wire I had to switch up.

Have a friend who was good friends with Eppinette. Gave Phil crap all the time about feeding valu - pak dog food.
Since I moved south figured i'd give it a try. so far I like it. stools are acceptable, dogs look and act great.
This same friend that gave phil crap stopped by to see the dogs. Said to me "dogs look great what you feeding" Man y'all should have seen his face when I said Valu - pak.
Actually have a litter of pups on ground mom looks great. pups are healthy, fat , and active. At $24 for 50lb in my mind hard to beat it.

The thing with the diarrhoea is weird, in that I fed something called Simpsons Premium to my dogs and one of them had mad explosive diarrhoea on it, whist the others were fine. This is marketed as a hypoallergenic complete dry kibble...

Once I switched to Sportmans Mix Wholesomes all my dogs shit has never looked better.

Lol as good as shit can look anyway. :))

I'm very happy with it. Not to thrilled about the drive to get it but they're worth it so I just deal with it.
