Swimming will make a big difference in a dog.
I don't think a keep BASED around swimming is a great idea, however adding swimming to your keep or whatever will do wonders, physically and mentally.

    Very entertaining thread.

Looking into putting one of those 275 gallon water tanks together this weekend, and stumbled upon this. Quality from page 1.

I plan on running a pvc pipe across the top with a eye bolt ran through the middle. To keep them in place I believe. How is yours put together? Iv got a buddy with a few in his yard and he said I can come get one they just need a little cleaning.

Swimming nice method to bring one into shape IMO.
If the weather permitted it and the dog liked to swim it was just fun to conditioning one that way, it was one of the tools which I used to get one right on track.

very interesting @F.W.K. i have heard some good stories utilizing water. However, never a setup like I mentioned above. I don’t plan on using it as a the only tool just a tool. Could you expand on your utilization? I understand if not. Thanks!

picking one up tomorrow up already built for 50$ LOL I’ll post pictures. Not that anyone will be able to expand them.

This is the one I acquired today. 50$ and I got another tank uncut thrown in with it. I believe I will have to lower the board across the top, but I am looking forward to filling her up.

reading through all of these pages of some promoting and a certain guy thrashing the swim keeps, I couldn’t help but think about the one you spoke of with success. Kind of made it a no brainer. Thanks!

Got a chance to peruse some of this thread dating back to ’12. Sure swimming generally builds wind, elongates muscles, with lower impact on the joints, but I see swimming as supplementation at best - not substitution for land based exercise in preparation for a land based event…for a number of reasons, much of it stated here ad nauseam. That said, I get consistently good results from water training in terms of keeping the dogs lean and fit.

I may have posted this on this thread, not sure, if so I apologize for the repeat.

We has a Mims btch out of Spiffy/Lucky that would do no work. Barely walk but mostly had to be dragged. Exceptional bitch just no interest in putting out effort.

We put her on the end of a piece of 20ft. conduit with a snap hook and pushed her out in a pond. Every day she nearly drown but in the end she decided to put forth the effort and swim.

She was in incredible shape. She performed well enough where we thought about actually building a swim tank and using it along with everything else. Sort of like another tool in the she approach.

But as a stand alone, it worked for her.
