The past few weekends there have been coyotes coming through my back yard and this is about 80' from my dog. What can I do to prepare my dog that is 14m old and unexperienced? I saw on a bulldog kennel website were they hunt coyotes with them. The weight of the two look about the same give or take 5to10lbs. the match would be one to two on my one so I need yall's help to prepare me and my dog. I have tried to shoot them but they get gone before I get out there with my shotgun.

    thanks ahead of time [IMG]

weird, one of the last conversations I had with "Tex" was about coyotes. They took out 3 of my rabbits=just clean tore 'em out of their cages and decapitated them. Tex had Dobes on his property, and friend of mine has dobes as well. Perhaps some sort of "guard" dog to help alert you.

Sometimes they get scared with lights, maybe even installing a motion detector of some sort....
BIG problem up around this way, as well.
    lil bastards!!!!

Brother forget the shotgun that will not reach our far enough for the sly coyote. 22 250 is a better tool. Coyotes run in packs and a dog on a chain is a sitting duck. I have a walker that I turn out with two of my APBT that tend to those issues. If it is a large pack and unless you have night vission it is best to assume it is then I turn out more dogs. They know to follow my walker she will lead them to the damn things then bay till I get there to retrieve my dogs. They make quick work of the little bastards but one dog on a chain isn't much for it to do. I have a night vision scope on my 30.06 that I nail them with off of my roof. I love doing that shit. I suggest you talk some one with some running walkers to hunt them things off. They can out run the coyotes and run plum county to county if need be. They use tracking collars to track their dogs. Unless you want to spend some serious cash I would talk a coyote dogman into running them off. Ya the bull dog can kill them but several on one dog is not a good deal even if he does kill them all he will suffer some wounds and they are not vaccinated. They are desease carrying pest. Vermin to me.

with "000" buck shot at 25to30yds it would do the job LoL. Two out of three times there were just one.

the only way in know they are around is there droppings 30 feet from the dogs. i would hate to a couple coyotes go after him he does huge damage and hes 80lbs.

I hunt coyote with some of my dogs, but the methods I use wouldn't help in your case, as we like to call them up in the den and send in a small bulldog and when they bolt the den we turn the kill dogs loose.

If they are running threw your area and ALL your dogs and nieghbors dogs are confined properly, here is the best method to rid yourself of them(if its legal in your area).

Get a few lbs of hamburger meat and mix in some "timic" and "lye". Mix it good and put it where you been seeing them.

One swallow of that and your coyote problem is over. Make damn sure if they die to dispose of them properly as they will kill whatever eats them.

I like the first way the best.

Damn Yotes I killed 4 this week we never had the things till about 10 years ago now they are every place. I used jaw traps and milk jugs with timick and deer liver in it cut a hole in the jug and put the meat in it make the hole just right for the yote to put his head in. Just burn every thing it tutches the stuff is very bad news and find all the dead and plant them deep. P.S. USE RUBBER GLOVES. it can kill you also.. Good luck you might kill them all but I dont think so I've been at them for 5 years and they keep coming.. Yis J

If I had a gun I could have shot them at about 30yds. The one that almost tied up with my the other day was about 25'.

Make sure your dog has it's rabies shot. Don't even worry about the weight;)

That is always my problem. I never have the weapon in hand when I see them or they see me. Unless you plan to tote that shot gun around all afternoon and early morning it is hard to get that short shot. You know what is fun is tie a cord around a chickens leg and stake it down out in field give it enough cord to walk about some to bring them stinking things in closer and shoot them as they come in for the free snack. Don't let it get too close to your chicken or you'll have to rebait when you kill the bird to with the shot gun. But shoot them and leave them lay wait for the next one to come investigate. Hear Buzzards are a protected animal so you will be doing them a favor by giving them prime carrion to eat. Your good service to the ecosystem. lol Yes that is how I look at it. I like Buzzards they clean up messes. They are butt ugly birds but they do take care of dead things and keep them from rotting too bad and spreading deseases.

Or u can always get yourself a little hand cannon, like a 357 or 45 shoot maybe even a 500 lol. Just get a holster and pretend ur a cowboy and walk around ur yard ready for the next coyote to pop out lol. Good times lol

The timic and lye sounds like a winner but were I live there are free romeing dogs and cats. The other dogs don't come through my yard but the woods behined my house were the coyotes come through dogs may come through also. So if I knowed no other dogs or cats would get it that would be the plain. I had thought about just leting J.R. go when I saw it but then I might not see him agein, well maybe in the next county LOL.

P.S. If you give guided hunts I would like to go some time.
