To cut my dogs toenails I've tried to keep him used to it but they don't grow sueper fast to keep him used to it. But some times he lets me after about 15 to 30min. But if he don't want me too than it's not getting done. He's an outside dog but those claws hert when they come down the ol' arm. Also tried the search but no luck. thanks

the best way is exercise...... the nails will stay short if you walk your dog down the street.

I use a drummel to keep them smooth,,,I start that with the dogs when they are puppies,,its hard to get them use to it when they are older,,if u can get em use to it,,its the best way to go.

Dog's act completely different when on the table. Don't act squeemish, no one would want any nervous person near them with any kind of clippers. Be confident, and don't take no for an answer. Even if your dog doesn't need his nails trimmed, grip them with your fingers and manipulate the toes to reduce his sensativity. Be extra careful not to cut the vein, that will causes enormous issues, better safe than sorry. Lots of praise, treats, blah blah, you know what I mean! Good luck!

Is this like the table at the vets office? because he's had them cut there and it was the same. Sometimes I fill like I'm in the UFC when I try. I've done just about everything close to the bodyslame and legdrop LOL.

Several things may help. One is to buy the best nail trimmers you can afford. Handle your dogs feet/nails to get him used to you messing with his feet. When clipping, have him lay down and have a helper keep his attention with tiny bits of treats and star clipping. Take it slow and easy, just clip the tip of each nail. He will eventually be conditioned to having his pedicure. If not, invest in a dremmel drill and just grind the tips off. Good luck and let me know how it goes

I don't hit the drummel flat on the toenail,,I go in a circle all around the toenail,,making the toenail like a skinny tube,,that ends up being soft,,then they walk that off

I've done all of that but the best nail clippers and dremmel. But my wife was at her baby shower so I was going to do it myself like I've done befor but it didn't workout.

My grooming table looks something like this [IMG]

Something similiar if not the same as what they use in grooming shops. Legend is much better up on the table. I'm 105lbs. Wrestling with him won't work for me. I know I wont win. LOL. I also use a nail grinder to smooth his nails out after clipping(quickly).

To keep them used to having their feet and nails handled I use a nail file on them twice a week so when cutting is required it isn't such a pain in the ass.

I use a bodyslam legdrop combo, and finish him off with a cripler crossface, then he is out for the count.:D lol

excercise will keep the nails trimmed...our dogs play with hard plastic balls or bowling balls and go at it as long as you let them they never need nails clipped....for a house dog that's hard to trim... strap 'em in a breed stand and a dremel works best. We had a strap ripped off the stand by a twisting dog so make sure it's secure. good luck

I haven't any patience so I just put a muzzle on the dog and my husband sits on the floor holding their head. I cut the nails. Takes about 4 minutes even with dogs that hate their nails done. Has something to do with the muzzle. They know they are stuck and just submit. Saves a lot of time and they don't get upset cause it gets done so fast.
