New Proposed Photo Contest Direction

Can you call a dog a cur or subpar based on looks alone? Cause that's really all you're getting in the contest....pictures. Since this is the internet, so many people lie and front....while some may keep some or all of their dogs private. How can you really tell what a person has unless you visit their yard in person?
While you may not think a "subpar animal" serves a purpose....to some it does. There are dogs out there that are a part of someone's family, it's their pet that they love. I'd say being a companion is serving a purpose.

The purpose some would like their dog to serve is illegal in the United States. So, some people have chosen to do legal activities with their dogs...like showing, weight pull, hog hunting, etc. Does that make their dog a cur?

 

I guess thats why I still show my dogs.........

 

Ahhhhh comon simms...could you at least agree it is OUR contest. If I promise to keep my pet bull, feed him, don't breed him and make sure he is not a hazard to the breed........have I not done all the things the game dog owners have asked? Does it really make a difference to you that he lives out his days under my roof than at the hands of the breeder that could have culled him? I have no issues with culling either.....I just cannot see why there has to be an us and them. I am saying you lead I will follow, I say teach me and I will learn. You are right the only thing we can do about the pet bull population is stop the poor breeding, keep those that exist right now in check........we are here to do that. Well then you could always take the same approach the Chinese did when they had a dog problem.....

 

Ok....The contest is open to anyone that chooses to participate. I'm not bashing petbull owners, post away...LOL

Edit: There is No us and them. Shouldnt be viewed like that....if that's the impression that I have left with you my appologies. the only thing I'm preaching to the gamedog community is to stop selling and placing these animals within the public.

 

well goodness i don't have any cute pics on my PC at work, of the dogs dressed up.


my dogs are game-breed... and they would be game dogs if they belonged to some of ya'll. but they are mine.. so they live in the house (now they have a baby goat as company) they sleep in the bed, or on the couch, they know tricks, like how to play fetch, and ooooh my goodness they go to soccer practices.(not games to many people that might get upset about a pit bull in the ball park) oh and best of all they get happy meals with the kids every friday...

some people need to get there panties out of a wad.. even marty posted in this thread... and ya'll know what.. this is HIS site.. :rolleyes: ....if he isn't upset, how can anyone else be???? it is NOT your site....

Awww but Simms, you know that will NEVER happen. There are people on this very board saying this very thing all the while handing puppies out to everyone who shows up at their door. So many people talking so much shit it is unreal.

Game doggers are so quick to point out that there is "no point" for pet bulls, but it must be rembered what is good for the goose is good for the gander & unless you are engaging in illict activites, the same argument (there's no point for them) can be said about game dogs too.

I think it can be summed up in your sig quote by Bill Cosby:

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."

That is a great quote & so true. IMO if you like a game dog, fine. If you like a pet bull, fine. So long as the pet bull ppl are not calling a dog what it's not, I don't care what they own & love, so long as they're honest about what it is & care for it responsibly.

I'm not talking about the photo contest LOL I'm talking about the site in general, I don't even read the threads about the contest its not even part of my interest, I put it up so the members could have some fun, that's all

If you replace the word "cur" with "pit bull" in your response you sound exactly like the illogical lunatics espousing BSL and the banning pit bulls.

This whole argument is totally ridiculous. Ownership of APBT has many facets and many types of owners. It is not black or white--you are either a game dog owner or a pet bull owner. To me it is the equivalent of saying that if you own a quarter horse and you dont race your horse in the quarter mile race and cull all the horses that cant run a record breaking mile you are a pet quarter horse owner. No matter if you do barrel-racing, roping, therapy or english jumping with your Quarter Horse.

Pit Bulls are a versatile breed and have MANY uses. Some of the dogs you would consider "curs" are out working with law enforcement doing bomb detection to secure our borders!!!!!!!!! Some of them are former shelter dogs!!!!!!!! Some of them are doing search and rescue. Would you turn your nose up at the "cur" that found your child stranded in a forest?????????????????????? Or the cur that alerted you that you were about to have a seizure?

Some people do rescue, some people use their dogs for therapy for children and the aged, some people do search and rescue, some do obedience, weight pull, agility, schutzhund or conformation showing, some use their dogs as guide dogs, some do tracking, some do bomb detection and drug detection, some use their dogs for hunting or ratting or even herding!!! And yes some people have them as just as pet dogs and probably live longer lives because of it.

To lump all thse people into one category of pet bull is ludicrous. Just as it is ludicrous to lump all game dog people into one category. Can we quit the bloody name calling? It is juvenile.

The people I take issue with are the people who are breeding substandard dogs and irreponsibly owning dangerous pit bulls--these are the people I and everyone should take issue with. END DOT!

I need a break from them. No curring, just a hiatus. There is so much hate and venom surrounding something as innoccuous as a photo contest, and which dogs should be allowed to enter, and even which dogs are curs based on the strength of a damn picture that I just have no desire to enter right now. The positivity and compliments and all that good stuff has been dashed.

 

For the record: I really dont care about the photo contest either, post away. All I was doing was suggesting that the pic contest and the site in general be taken more serious and focused on gamedogs. Im not against anybody or their dogs, I would just like the site and members to stay focused on the main subject GAMEDOGS.


Because I started this whole issue, I will now make entries in the photo contest every month. If Im gonna whine and cry about it i might as well do something about it, right?? This will take some dedication on my part cause I only have 24k dialup LOL.:o Livin in the boondocks has its drawbacks.
