So I took Folsom up to the track today to walk him a little bit and there was this guy walking a cute little bat eared APBT... she had obviously just had puppies not too long ago her tits were still swollen and sagging. So we strike up a conversation about the dogs and such and I ask how's your girl bred? He looks at me like I've got a second head growing out of my neck.. he says "huh?" I ask again how is she bred? He smiles and says "Oh.. naturally." I'm like naturally? He says "yeah.. you know the way God intended I don't believe in getting a dog pregnant artifically." So I try again and ask what are her bloodlines? He says "Oh I thought I told you she's a pit."

Just struck me as funny... sad that he bred this dog and doesn't know anything about it.. but it made me laugh.

  2. That gets annoying.
When i walk my dogs, people always ask what thier bloodlines are.
    Why does it matter?

I rescued my dogs, so i have no idea.

I always ask just because i am curious and I am still learning everything myself... but my main reason for asking was because of two things.. one he bred so i was curious what lines he was working with and two the dog was bat eared and I was curious if that was a trait among a certain bloodline.

Don't feel bad, I've had people look at me like that too, and then come up with the "It's the Red Nose bloodline, or Tiger Stripe Brindle blood" Cracks me up!! Then I have to spend who knows how long to explain stuff to them.
The ear thing is'nt a bloodline thing, it just happens. Ears are ears to me, I would'nt care if they stood up like radars!! LOL!

If you own this bred I think you should know what the bloodline is. At least have an idea. I dont know that is just me...[IMG]

  6. So i should have left the two dogs to die, because i didnt know what thier bloodline was?

'I dont know that is just me'

  7. That is the most common question that an APBT owner is asked. In fact, if you go to a show you will be asked how your dog is bred a lot more often that your own name (lol)...if that's annoying sorry. The best thing you can do is try to educate. Now most people are annoying, but you may be the only example they have of a responsible APBT owner.

If you were walking your dogs and we got to talking, I would ask what bloodline the dog is out of curiosity. All you have to do is say: I'm not sure, the dog is a rescue.:) And good for you for rescuing:)

    no.

since they were rescues, i'm assuming they're now fixed (i hope)?

as long as you're not breeding them, it shouldn't matter.

but like ncpg said, it looked as though the dog had been bred. then you should know what you're dealing with.

it's people like that who produce dogs they don't know anything about, then they end up being your rescue or a statistic on the news.

i'm new to this breed myself, but everyday i see more and more why simms (one of the mods) has "Close the cirlce folks, this breed's not for everyone" in his sig.

He didn't say you have to know what your dog's bloodlines are, just what the word bloodline means. if you don't know a simple, oh I don't know she/he is byb, or she/he is a rescue/shelter pup. Something like that. Not "umm, it's a pit bull", when asked the bloodlines.

I usually get wow that's such a cute boxer mix! LOL! I just smile and say thank you now. I am dog tired of explaining that my dog is a APBT. He is 38lbs. and looks perfect to me, but people are so used to seeing the huge Razors Edge type dogs as Pit Bulls they don't even know what a real APBT even looks like!!! It's really sad......

No, smartypants. No sense in getting all lippy and defensive about it.

Of course rescues would be an exception. As long as your dogs are fixed, your good deed is appreciated.

The point is: If you are walking an APBT bitch who has obviously just been bred and you don't even know anything about your dog- it's sorry and pathetic.

Just my two cents. Back to your scheduled program.

what is in the water today? Seems like every thread today has some kind of argument going on...Remember arguments belong in PM not on the main threads.

Well first of all it's against forum rules to post a PM- so you are at least going to get a one day ban for that one I'm willing to bet. Anything else you wanna say while you're at it?

Thanks for completely ignoring me guys- it's damned disrespectful to screw up threads like this.

I whole heartedly agree, if your gonna tote your dog around town after it has given birth then you should know what your dogs bloodline is. BYB's are a huge problem with this breed, too many yahoo's backing any old dog up to one another for no other purpose than to just breed.

When I moved up town ( back in the 80's ) and got my first house it was in a not so decent area to say the least. I met alot of interesting people while in that neighborhood. All the cretants came crawling out begging to breed dogs with mine. I would laugh on the inside when asking them what bloodlines they are running, most of them never had a clue. What i really found funny was after I explained what bloodlines meant to some of these fools and what I owned, shortly after everyone somehow owned Colby dogs.

Its a sad friggin sight seeing all the unwanted dogs down at the pound, most these people only see dollar signs when it comes to this breed. If they all really only knew that there is not much money to be gained when doing things properly then maybe we wouldn't be overpopulated with them.

so back to the topic at hand..i feel anyone and everyone whether your dog is a rescue or not..you need to be able to represent the breed in a positive light.
