i got an idea why dont you try repitition (sp) leave for for like a min if that and then come back in and continue doing this after a while she will realize your not going to abandon her and also put all the ideas together the hole tv thing and toys and also put out her fav. food tell me if it starts to work it will take a while however but its totally worth it if it turns out good:o

  2. ive started something similiar to that. I have a small pantry room. I've cleaned it out so all that is in there is her belongings. I have started out by putting her food in there to feed her. Close door, she eats a little bit. Then she starts howling at the door. Once she has been quiet for 10 m ins open door. I dont greet her and i ignore her till she is calm.

Another thing you can do while you are doing those other things is give her a nice workout. Keep her tired & a lot of her issues will go away.

Well what I would do is what another member suggested and give her a good work out before you leave and then since she didn't do well in the cage I would try confining her to one room in the house that you think would have the least amount of things she could break. A lot of times the bathroom is a good place after you clean everything out of there that she might get into that could make her sick.

I would look for something fairly small with no windows that she could get at and that you could shut the door and let her be, Also something with a easy clean up surface since she will more than likely go to the bathroom due to the stress or might just do it out of spite. Then I would just put her a blanket down in there and I would put her kong in there with some cheese or peanut butter and then see what happens.

I don't like the idea of leaving a dog muzzled by themselves period, I would rather the dog have use of it's mouth and not be fighting with the muzzle and end up causing harm in the process, Not saying it will happen but it very well could.

im proberly going to cop some flack over this, but first things first.
i firmly believe if someone lives in an appartment building they most definately should not have one of these dogs:mad:
if you cant handle it, put her to rest.
living in a confined area such as an appartment building is no place for an apbt.
i feel for people who may feel the necessity to own these dogs, but i seriously do not see any type of common sence when it comes to that type of enviroment.
forget about the dogs until you can provide a better enviroment to own such a dog. these dogs need to be doing something.
if you had a yard, you could use long cable runs etc and provide other ways to keep your dog entertained.
im serious, it is no place for an apbt, these situations are just a start to many problems involving the dogs.
i also would most definately not muzzle a dog while i was not there to supurvise:rolleyes:
if you had a yard space, you could seperate the dog from you on a cable or chain run, yet still letting the dog know you are still around which may help in correcting this problem. but honestly, until you can provide a better enviroment, i would greatly concider handing the dog over to a competent person or put her down.

ALL of my APBTs are in one of thoose. I HIGHLY recommend them. It comes winter and it's too cold for me to go outside then they are inside in those or this. [IMG]. It has a top to it so no escaping. Before someone asks I do have a whole room for my dogs that is why I can fit a HUGE outside pen and the rolling metal cages inside.
(The picture posted is NOT my dog nor my house it is the picture off the site I bought it from)

I've moved your thread to our Training & Behavior Section.

When you say shes destroys her crate, what type of crate are you referring to? Just the wire one, or have you tried Airport crates as well?

I agree with Rallyracer. Good post. :)

As as OldTimer said, give the dog a good workout.

I'm not sure if you're talking about SA it could be him/her needing time to adjust...
if it's SA then here are a few things I tried with my boy (RIP)

    *training
    *leaving on the tv
    *tried those diffusers (dog-scent thingy)
    *training along with herbal meds
    *training along with meds
    *training even more, without meds
*leaving my JRT in the room (my boy was crated)
*leaving a shirt of mine in his crate
*stuffed kong and toys in his crate
    *exercise heavily before I leave
*leaving the door open so he could hear everyone walk by (crated of course)

that dog once even woke me up at 3 in the morning while I was at my boyfriends home... mom was dog-sitting and he got out by opening the doors and was barking like a lunatic in the yard...
I had to put him to sleep due to his seperation anxciety at only 2 yrs old :(

needless to say I tried EVERY single thing I could think of... so I hope this helps a bit...

Yes, it is; but a dog with a true panic is going to hurt itself just TRYING to get out.
