Now my dog is considered "viscous" ?!?!

    Hey all,

I check the site from time to time, but I'm no regular. First off, it's a little bittersweet owning an APBT. They're misunderstood as animals, and it seems there may be a time when we can't own them legally.

Recently, the woman's young daughter was visiting for awhile, and neglected to inform us that she would be bringing her raging drug problem w/ her.

The day before she was leaving, she took my car, claiming that her driver's liscence and bank card were missing...... like we took them or something!? So when she returns in some psycho rage and I go out to tell her to get out of my car and calm down, I see her cards on the ground by the car, where she probably dropped them by accident. Then she tries to run me over, etc., etc. WTF!!

So she gets in the house, and in the ensuing drama, takes a swing at me. I blocked her easily, but the dog did what it should have, and started to defend me. Mind you, it did her no harm, only grazed her twice... I believe it was warning her. So, of course, she calls the law and claims that I put a pitbull on her.

I must give credit to the responding officers. They took statements, and made the honest (and correct) decision that the dog acted to defend its master inside a house. But now my dog's name, addy, and description are in a database. He wasn't siezed.

What a mess, and so scary to realize I could have lost him. Even worse would have been if the girl had gotten herself seriously injured. I didn't take the whole thing too personally b/c she just wasn't in a right mind that day.

    Sheesh.

I thought very seriously about having her taken away, but then she'd have missed flight, and would still be in the area, and would have to come back for court, etc. She got dropped off at a place of her choosing, and I assume someone took her to the airport. Better that she's gone. BTW, she won't be welcome here for a long, long time.

simms, as a long time member w/ lots of posts, what do you mean? Legally, I know neither me or my animal was wrong to defend in my own house per FL law, but sometimes the cops don't see it that way. The word "pitbull" may have gotten him taken away and put down as a "nuisence". Much like some of the "dog fighting" seizures I've read about here.

unfortunately as the result of this incident your dog is in a dangerous dog database. So from this point forward you need to be on your toes about any proposed legistlation that can directly affect your house hold as long as you live there or the remainder of animals life.

its not considerd a dangerous dog they have a hearing through the ac to lable it as dangerous where you can fight it.if so youd have to mussel and all kinds of crap.if the ac wasnt there cant see how its in a data base.they prob just have then incedent on record.

Thanks outrightmike and simms. I understand better since ac wasn't involved and the dog wasn't taken. But there is an incedent report, and the local cops now know that he's here.

Luckily there's no BSL around here, and I haven't seen anything in the papers or local press.
