In the last few years, the USDA (United States Dept. of Agriculture) stopped funding the inspection of horse slaughterhouses, leading to the demise of the processing plants.

What was the result? Starving horses, and horses sent by rail to either Canada or Mexico for slaughter. Neither of those is preferable in terms of reducing suffering of horses.

I don't know for sure, but it is a distinct possibility that AR groups had something to do with the demise of US horse processing. Will they take responsibility for the extra horse waste and suffering that has resulted?

I heard Ophra had a hand in it. She needs to take her fat ass to a horse sale around here and look at what it has caused.

Saw a segment about this on HBO real sports. They had a horse that at one time demanded a 1 million dollar stud fee,and wound up being sold as meat down in Mexico.A guy that new who the horse was ended up buying the horse out of respect for it's past perfermence. It was like an episode of Sanford and Son.

That's interesting. I think a lot of celebrities think they are really helping horses or other animals, but in fact are causing more harm than good.

That is disturbing, and it shows that the public, who apparently think that banning US horse slaughter really saves horses, are really stupid and harmful and/or under the influence of ASPCA and other AR groups.

That one horse got lucky. But there are lots of horses that starve instead of being killed painlessly and then used to feed other creatures, or that end up taking a longer journey for slaughter than they would have.

Yeah that was included in the real sport's episode. The animal rights shut down the u.s. plants where they used bolts like with cattle, and the plants moved to Mexico where they sever the base of the neck and it takes longer. They showed how up in Canada that they still use a shotgun and it is pretty much the same as the bolt.At least the episode showed how the animal rights people screwed up,and sent american jobs down there also.

  8. Yeah I used to train horses for aliving an I used to raise a colt or 2 every year an make a really good profit but that f#cked my whole job up. It pisses me off what aspca an these other animal rights groups are doin it pisses me off... The thing is all the ppl who went against horse slaughter are not real horse owners

  9. I heard they were gonna open a plant up in TX, but I think that's wishful thinking.

My buddy worked in a slaughterhouse where his job was to wait at the end of a chute for bulls heads to pop through a trap door and then hammer the bull between the eyes with a 20 lbs hammer, humane IDK but im a meat eater so I really don't care how they kill my food. When your at the top of the food chain I don't think it matters much, lions will eat a zebra alive and I don't see anyone bitching about it, oh yeah you can't create capital from a lion because they don't respect our monotary system therefore they are exempt and those poor poor zebras will just have to suffer, sniff sniff gimme a fuckin break.

Eating is like buying a dog. If you didnt grow or raise your food from start to the table you dont know what you're really eating just like you dont know how a dog is bred unless you witness it and are there to follow it through. If not the most you can do is hope for the best.

The reason that the AR groups used to pressure the USDA had to do with cruelty, and the fact that many people have a more sentimental view of horses than they do of other livestock. But my point was that horses suffer more now by starvation or long trips than they did when the slaughterhouses were operating. So if these AR groups were intellectually honest, they would apologize for their stupidity, and then use some of their ill-gotten gains to pay the USDA to start inspecting the horse slaughterhouses again.

I'm not sure, but I would guess there are some horses still slaughtered for pet food or by private owners who aren't selling the meat, and therefore don't need to pass an inspection for meat sales, etc.

I like to eat at a Chinese buffet here. One of my favorites is the "meat roll." I have no idea what's in it, but it's tasty.
