I know that the Amstaff are breed for the show ring and the apbt is breed for the combat ring but is it possible for a Amstaff to come out of a litter and be game

I would say anything is possible but likely no the reason being is in order to maintain and preserve gameness you need to be actively breeding/selecting/testing for it each generation or it's as good as gone. Since the Amstaff has been bred away from gameness for years now I would say gameness is pretty much non-existant in those dogs.

gameness isn't exclusive to apbt dawgs yet the most renouned "gamebred" breed of dawg is the apbt.

In the USA you dont see gamebred Staffs. But I am sure overseas thier are a few people still working them.

this, but still... after having bred away from anything of the sort for so long, I highly doubt you would get anything worth while out of a US dog

I guess anything is possible but I'd say highly unlikely, just go with a APBT and you'll have better odds.

I agree gh32..... Heard alot of stories from a few old timers that went into different breeds of dogs back in the day and labeled every one of them curs. Some were rough curs but still curs! APBT all the way. Or just get a few of each and try them yourself.

    Not all were bred away.

But you are correct all the Amstaff were bred away from game..But the staff overseas are not Amstaff..So you would have to import one if you wanted a real one and no tellin how much it would cosy ..But yes all the Amstaff shit has been bred away from gameness many ,many, many generations.

Yeah I would have a better chance at getting hit by a car than I would finding an AKC game Amstaff and the even better question is why would you want to even try to find one? For one those dogs today are not built to withstand the punishment that an working apbt can. They are like night and day when it comes to performance. Get a dog bred to get the job done. You want a show ring stopper get an amstaff. You want a dog bred to work, kick ass and take names later get an APBT.

Problem today is many ApBT's are bred as AmStaffs, for color size, shape, etc, rather than performance.

  12. Maybe its me. Why can't people just hope for the best and not always look for that diamond in the rough. Your breeding dogs that are meant to prance around the show ring. Be happy with that. Also, I personally think that there is way to much breeding of pets.

There are far from non existant! They are still out there! Most Am Staff lines today dont make the cut but there are some that would. JS

And what would these Amstaff Lines be? Sorry I can't imagine why anyone would want an Amstaff for anything other than a show ring. Can you show me any recent reports on any Amstaff that has done anything worth talking about?

Problem today is people don't truly know the meaning of GAME BRED.
How many APBT's TODAY are truely GAME BRED ?
Alot of claimers, but tested and true ???????????????????

  16. As a younger man I wanted a dog that looked tough on the chain, simply to keep strangers away, but who wouldn`t do shht to the neighorhood kids. The Amstaff I found fit those requirements to a `T`, decent mouth but no wind and dumb as Hell, great house dog for the wife and kids though :) Simply not the same animal as an APbT, it`s like they took the bullets outta the gun. That`s my experience anyhow.

I guess I just feel like why bother wondering about what if or what could be when there is one breed that was built and engineered from the ground up to do what the APBT was designed to do. If you are in the sport for the long haul and at a serious competitive level the APBT is the only dog you would want or need to get the job done. Pre- 76 I am not going to Europe looking for a Staff I am looking for the baddest gamest APBT I can find.

I agree there's alot of breeding for the wrong characteristics a lot anymore, but there's still bulldogs being bred, alot more so than am staffs

Yeah,pre-76 I don't know why anyone would want to handicap themselves or start off farther from their goal than they need to by looking for a game staff, when what they a really wanting is already there with the APBT and alot easier to find.

Does the double registration fit in , as i heard some are that , even back in 1995 I was approached by an Amstaff owner with paper work to register my APBT as a Amstaff . Wile i could see many reasons Amstaff people would like to sneak back some APBT Any one using Amstaff to APBT would only be for color or structure not gameness

There's a few old ch out there that came off not very good dogs like ch stormer am sure I read on here that both dam and site wasn't up to much but produced him

It could happen in a amstaff but better odds on a apbt ??
