There is no "Old Family" bloodline, and Old Family Reds have been extinct for over 100 years.

All our Gamedogs go back to the Old Family lines, they were actually referred to as Old Family Dogs in BRITAIN before they went to or were exported to America, their name was just changed but the dogs remain Old Family Dogs so if you got a Gamedog the dog is an Old Family Dog. Just my opinion............. being British of course.

No the Old Family Reds came from Ireland not Britain.

The British Isles are a group of islands off the northwest coast of continental Europe that include the islands of Great Britain, Ireland and over six thousand smaller isles. So Southern Ireland is part of the British Isles FYI but NOT part of the "United Kingdom" like Northern Ireland, therefore we could say the the Old Family Reds came from the British Isles. The Old Family Reds were also dispersed over the greater part of the British Isles in England and Scotland and Wales and Ireland way back then. I should know because I'm Irish, Scots and Manx mixed.

If you were to ask this in the Ireland section you would be told in no uncertain tones that there is no such place as Southern Ireland...and whosoever told you that would be quite correct. What people mistakenly refer to as Southern Ireland is in fact the Republic of Ireland.

The whole of the island of Ireland is geographically classed as one of the British Isles...although there are those on the island who would prefer that it wasn't classed as such.

Southern Ireland is known as The Republic of Ireland. The Irish don't like to be considered part of the UK or "Great" Britain because they are not, its their own sovereign nation and they are not ruled over by the UK. The British Isles is just the description of the area in geographical terms. Some would say the British Isles and Ireland to describe the area some would just say the British Isles.

At the time of those import's to America in the mid to late 19th century. Eire was a part of the British empire, Ulster (Northern Ireland) is still a part of the UK today.
I've only ever seen American author's discribe the Irish dog's as Old family never seen any written word from this side of the atlantic calling them that. There alway's been dog's sent to and from both side's and are probably closer related than we think. I've alway's wondered where the Irish dog's disappeard to they weren't all exported to the US. When the Stafford gained kc recognition no Irish dog's/families were registered. And all later Stafford's in Ireland trace their ancestry back to the first Stafford's recognised by the British kC.

Old Family is a term in describing breeders of a certain era, when talking bulldogs. Old Family when talking Irish and Scots Irish would be to describe the age of the said Family and the roots of it. One may want to look ino the history of the people , than the history of the dogs, and go from there to understand. There are folks in the states that have been keeping bulldogs for generations. Somebody that does not know that, needs to do more research. Could be another decoy also. Cheers!

Old Family was a term used in Ireland of their breed of fighting dogs.
Old Family dogs were kept by each Klan so pure they almost became a breed with in a breed.
This is why they were so sought after was their ability to be bred tight and as the old books said,
    i.e. Joesph Colby-
"To restore gameness you inbreed son to mother, brother to sister, father to daughter."
They were called Old Family Reds because of their color.
They were brought into the U.S. in the 1700's.

William Lightner's family was known to have them for generations before the civil war.
No one knows for sure if they were crossed or not, or were they the straight stock that was imported.
Jim Corcoran who came to the US to fight John L. Sullivan for the Heavyweight Title was one of the last known importers of OFR.

Old Family Reds have been extinct for over 100 years.

The old Famely Reds came from a city called Cork in Ireland . The rezen why Red nose and chokolat etcetera is (still)considerd a FAULT in the SBT , is because its a sign of IRISH blood. It has nothing to do with QUALITY yet the BRITISH pride was BIG enoughf to ecspell and weed and breed out the Irish influens in there dogs.
the IRISH and BRITS tru history HATED eachother.. The old famely dogs where NOT british but Irish dogs... Hensh today 99% of the SBT is black / brindel/ fawn / white......

PS due to the heavy inbreeding! and isolation of those particulair dogs during that time. these dogs LOST there pigmernd and turned into Red colord dogs with redish eyes and red townails. they where NOT beter then any other famely of dogs . Some of these irisman took there dogs to the USA. i belive the last resenable PURE remaining dogs of the day where in the hands of Bob Wallace . Today there is NO pure Old famely reds left but in trowbacks. when breeding long enoughf on these traights, you can purify those dogs and recreat them. some breeders claim they have them. most have turned them into show stock. only a couple of them still have the real deal..
