Cloning...

Discussion in 'Breeder Discussion' started by blacksunshine, Aug 19, 2013.

  1. Today A Judge Ruled That The AQHA had To Allow Registration Of Cloned Horses Into The Studbooks. I Thought About The Pros/cons Of This For Awhile, but I've Still Not Reached A Conclusion Whether I'd Want Our best Dogs Cloned Or Not...

    Opinions Anyone??? Lol.

Been out of dogs for about 10-12 yrs. Been looking for the same type of dogs I had since 2010 and can't find any remotely bred the same or acting the same. If I had enough moola to clone I would've cloned my male.

Waste of money.....no garuntees they would act+perform the same ...?????

  4. True, But This Question Was asked From Strictly A breeding standpoint. Let's Take The Performance Factor Out Of the equation.

    Clone away,,,
But if u got a whole litter that you can't tell one from the other isn't that cloning the natural way??

100k to clone an animal for the purpose of breeding...
why not just get him collected and frozen for a hell of a lot less.

If you take the performance factor out of the equation, then why waste your money on cloning to begin with?

  8. Maybe I Should re-Word The Question...

Ethically, Is It A Tool That Should Be Utilized?

  9. You Could Freeze Semen All Day, Every Day...But What If You Could Clone Another Honeybunch Or Red Baby?
    Quality
My Thinking Is, We Should Be Breeding To Improve quality

  10. But Would We Be Improving Our Genetics By Using Our Older (But Proven) Genetically Identical Producers?

No there is no need .................???????????????/

Well I sure as hell would. If it is a replica of the original genetic package, then chances are that the production of the replica would equivalent to that of the original cobination of gentics or pretty damn close.

It doesn't work that way. They wouldn't be identical in mentality. In other words, if you cloned Bolio it doesn't mean the created animal would preform like him or act like him The dog will just look like him so what would be the point.......?

Keep in mind, I haven't researched current data on this, I did however research it about 7 years ago when I came across a company that would clone your pets for like $15,000. the gears started turning in my head but then they made what I posted perfectly clear in their information. Things may have come a long way in 7 years so I suppose I could be wrong, but I really don't think I am. So if the dog wouldn't perform the same then why waste money and time to only end up getting animals that do not do what the dog they were cloned off of could do?

your BANG ON RITE...AGK....IF THEY CLONED A HUMAN 2-MRW,THERE'S NO-WAY HE WOULD THINK,ACT,TALK,HAVE THE SAME MEMO,SAME WEAKNESS....AS YA SAY HE WOULD ONLY LOOK LIKE THE ORIGINAL......???????

  16. when they cloned dolly the sheep she looked and sounded just like her mother lol

The clone will without a doubt be the same, genetically, as the original animal. The impact that the environment plays on the animal is the only thing subject to change. If you believe the dogs are what they are, then you won't expect much of a change. If you believe how the dog is raised has a significant impact on how the dog will turn out, then you will expect different. but genetically the clone should be the same and produce the same. anything that is of genetic inheritance will still be there.

I don't think there is much need for it with the ability to freeze semen indefinitely. Cloning your best producing bitches? maybe. someone should look up the effects of cloning a clone though and if there is any downsides like genetic deterioration where the clones start getting weaker and weaker. Can't remember where I read something or heard about this but if that's true you should save the money and just continue with the progeny.

I have heard that dogs can be practically 'cloned' through certain breeding practices/methods. Is this true and has anyone here been able to do so? If so how did you go about it?
