I've used the coated chains with bulldogs in their mid to upper 40's with no accidents from the setups. I did check everyday & used a swivel on both ends of the cord. That helped prevent the tangle. Chains do work better hands down....but the cord is so so quite for urban areas.

Swivvels in the right spots is key..But I would never keep one of my Bulldogs on a cable.Thats just retarted.

I wouldn't even put a pup on one, I'd use a light puppy chain. There's always someone that wants to reinvent the wheel.

Where I'm @ chaining anything longer than 3hrs is considered animal abuse. Cable runs are legal all day. In my former position I was unable to use a chain setup, not only was the laws changed my neighbor is a sheriff. I also said I've USED them, I have chain setups. Just like there's always somone trying to invent the wheel. There's always someone going to run their mouth.

You'll find no lies or bullshit here! Bout the dogs, laws, or anything else spit from my mouth or typed on a keyboard. Been through to much & cut from a different cloth. But here's the link for those who don't believe or know. Lawmakers outlaw long-term tethering of dogs in cali A chain setup ( actually the axle or tie out) is considered a stationary object. I've been out the dogs for a while, and forgot alot......but not everything.LOL

PBK, if the chainweight is the issue use a smaller size chain with a higher chain grade! Grade 70+
An alternate set-up is overhead runs. It keeps the chain suspended off the ground and also complies with tether laws for those with that issue.

You can use a Cable if you use swivels. A cable isn't going to get any more twined up than a chain with no swivel. You just have to make sure your cable is like 3/4th of an inch maybe half an inch minimum. Big thick cable for those who can't use chains. That cable isn't going to wear out faster than a chain. I took a cable and strung it between two axels and had a chain sliding back and fourth over the cable as a grounded cable run.... the cables rubber coat is just now wearing down after one year of a chain sliding across it. The only problem was the dirt build up not allowing te chain to slide smoothly you have to do regular maintence to keep the dirt flat under the cable. I also have a 3/4 inch cable that a dog has been on for a year it has minimal wear on the rubber coat and that's from the dogs spot being half cement. The cable has to be thick enough where it doesn't bend or coil. A chain is less of a hassle but not your only option of chains are outlawed where you live.
