What are your opinions on this bandog cross? I feel the mastiff will decrease it's performance, I feel the opposite with a am bulldog x apbt cross which is more compact, I feel the dog can do more not being 100lbs or plus

I thought swinford the creator of the bandog was trying to create a giant apbt with protective qualities ...the dog. He's been pictured with named bantu looked like he was not cumbersome at all but I think he was a neo x apbt

Chevy red dog was mastiff x apbt and was the best weight pull dog to pull. All in the individual specimen and goal. Talked to a guy with traditional Dane xs he swore by them for catch dogs and guard dogs.

Bantu was English mastiff x pit bull cross. Massive dog but real agile also .

Why even make the cross at all ?
In the [ ] their is no question
For protection there are far better dogs then this cross
For catch work there are far better pure bred dogs as well as crosses being used
IMO they are the ''toy'' breed for guys who want a tough looking dog to put a spiked collar on.
    Just my thoughts

A bandog is as good as the breeder who bred it. They are a working cross bred for performance. If not bred for performance I wouldn't call it a bandog, but a mutt. Both parents should be selected for working qualities. The APBT tidies up the mastiff a lot, makes them healthier, fitter, more athletic as well. F1 dogs usually make great guard/PP dogs when bred right and trained properly and some are good catch dogs as well. I've seen some awesome hunting dogs come from F1 bandog x Bull Lurcher (apbt x greyhound, varying percentages). I've also seen an apbt/neo/corso mix dominate everything compared to it in protection trials.

Well from the book the world of fighting dogs by dr Carl semencic page 210
It states john swinford used a game american pitbull male and a well bred neo mastiff female to start his new breed ..also as a side note it states if u breed a bandog to bandog they will progressively get smaller til they reach the size of a normal apbt

Also swinford was pictured with a dog Dayton Grimm he was 132 pounds and looked very agile

There are a good handfull of guys doing the American Bulldog x APBT cross with good working results. With any breed or cross it depends what you are looking to do with the dog.

Wouldn't a am bull. X apbt cross just be a cross and not a bandog since the creator had a set mind on the breeds he used to make it and there's was no am bull. In it

a dog bred for its strength and ferocity by crossing aggressive breeds. Thats the defanition I got when I looked up the word bandog..I kinda agree with this , as I don't think it has to be 2 certain breeds to make it a bandog.IMO the beauty lies in the eye of the beholdef Another defanition says its just a ferocious dog that is tied in order to protect. But it doesn't say any particular type.I have no problems with these dogs being crossed as long as the dogs perform what they were bred to do..What more can u ask ? Everyone preaches don't cross breeds , well sometimes you may have to in order to get exactly what your looking for.

How you feel a boxer performance is compared to an American bulldog. Boxers are athletic and versatile

  17. There are good and bad examples of most breeds, that's why it's important to know the breeder of the dogs intentions. All the breeds mentioned are related in one way or another. Boxer is German for prize fighter, and are bandogs that ended up being about the size of an apbt.

Look it up its a bulldog greatdane bullenbieser mix used for hunting fighting and as butcher dogs .Boxers can be smashed face cancer ridden genetic disasters or they can be badass dogs with a few correctable faults. I got an 11 year old still going strong and he's got as much bulldog attitude as any.

You're gonna get the healthiest, high performance, and consistency from a game bred apbt. Obviously the apbt doesn't have much to gain from boxers; but boxers could gain a lot from the apbt in terms of health and original structure, I feel the same about the EBT.

The toughest part of the bandog community is repeating successes. The breedings, for whatever reasons, dominant prepotency or what, but always ends up pit bull like. Make the pit bull to anything cross, and then breed them two and it ends up being a bigger looking pit bull. I bought one when we were into the man-dogs and he was an APBT X Neo back to a APBT X Presa. The puppy I got was an over sized, very athletic, both people and dog aggressive pit bull (look alike).

The issue is not the breeds, but the general characteristics of the breeds involved. The defensive driven mollosser types will defend what is theirs, usually what is right there in front of them. The prey driven counterpart has every desire to chase something down and make it stop moving, by any means necessary.

The best bandogs are the ones who take on the health and agility and athleticism of the pit bull and defend what is right there n front of them. Mine on the other hand, inherited the desire to chase something down and make it stop moving in a defensive manner, like all of the world is mine and anything small and moving must be stopped. Mine had territorial issues, the planet was his planet, and he had no issue chasing down anything that moved to make it stop moving. This version of the ban dog is affectionately called a "Kid Killer". , not a loving term for endearment either.

All four dogs involved were well behaved working dogs who did what they were trained to do, what they were bred to do. The original cross worked as the two parents were the dogs they were bred to be. My puppy and several of his littermates were born serial killers, loving in the home, but an absolute liability in every other setting. A real life powder keg.

Ban dogs are meant for real working people, not flavor of the month, fly by night types. People who work dogs understand when a dog can't be worked, nor saved and by all means should not be reproduced or left to roam at will. These dogs are culled. The problem is people think they can fix anything, hoping for a miracle, and basically are sitting on a stick of dynamite with no control over the lighting of the fuse.

A slippery slope of the "slipperiest" kind. S

The worse I ever had was about like slim said where ever he was or what ever was in front of him was his.I opened my car door which was a stingray one morning and I didn't see him coming and he jumped in the car.I try to get him out of the car , nothing doing.I wound up taking him to work with me and he sat in the car the whole day , luckily it was winter. After a 8 hr shift I said well I bet I taught him a lesson. So we get home and I get out and told him to get out and hell no he still wouldn't get out. Tried to get him out with hotdogs, steak , u name it.Finally he had to go to the bathroom and he jumped out and I shut the door behind him.I wound up having to put him down eventually as he just became more and more unpredictable .

I even let my brother try him and he had no other dogs or kids..He lived in a ranch style home and saod it was nothing for him to walk outside and this big ass dog would be walking aroumd on the roof of the house.
