Keeping your dogs quiet

Discussion in 'Training & Behavior' started by elviejon01, May 4, 2016.

  1. Hello,

I am currently raising the first litter I bred and these pups are loud and abnoxious as hell lol. They don't like being confined so when I put them up in their kennel they start crying bloody murder or when they see me taking another dog out they also start whining. I have searched threads and many suggest barking collars. Just curious if these are okay to use on pups. Mine are 13 weeks old.

I would also like to hear tips on what some of you are doing to keep your dogs quiet. My older dogs listen and are pretty good about being quiet but these pups will only shut up when I cut them loose.

    Thanks,

Last litter I had they were growling at each other and trying to push each other around before their eyes opened, talk about a noisy litter. But they were a lot of fun to watch grow up and I wound up only having to take one out of the litter around 6 weeks old for being to bad..I love to hear pups play.

I don't introduce bark collars, the shock kind, until about 6 to 8 months old. Probably not a good idea for pups as young as yous are. Could probably look into the collars that spray a mist in the face when they bark, there is also sonic ones and ones that just vibrate when triggered. Most of these collars aren't cheap for a single one let alone enough for an entire litter. 60 to 100+ bucks a piece. Pups can be loud, I tend to just tolerate it until they get put on the chain. I raise mine indoors though so they can pretty much be as loud as they want, no one hears it but me and if they are in their pen then I probably am not home anyway to hear it. Good luck, if you were to get the collars that shock, I'd go with the ones for the smallest of breeds but personally I would just let them be pups.

Currently raising a litter also, going on 7 weeks and these are the loudest rowdiest pups I've had in awhile. By 6am they screaming barking howling....a damn alarm clock. Mines want out because they need to use it and will not in the above ground....I like that tho..the moment they hear the door unlock its on 36 feet and 9 mouths....out the pen head or feet first 100 miles and running..everything quite now...they are on my boots like nipples Lol then everyone hits a trail i made and use it. While they are snooping around I gather there feed and they come running....I try to let them run their butts off, so they will get sleepy....after awhile I will notice them trying to jump back into the above ground(about a hour).. I place them back in give them something to play tug a war...and its off to work for me.

I enjoy the noise Lol, my neighbors haven't clowned so I'm good....I keep it cloroxed and clean as possible...
No bark collars on a pup for me that young.....I figure we are figuring each other out...I pike the fact they are crank...jm2c...hell I'm more concern with animal control
Let them be pups ....its the fun part of all the hard work for me...

Just let them be what they are young pups. Building a pen inside might help some. Good luck

I have the same answer for a thousand questions...

PEANUT BUTTER,,, it also works with the kids!!!

Use MILK to reverse the effect and repeat...

I'm having a problem with a barker as well. Using the sport dog no bark 10r and it's still not working. Such a shame because everything else I like about the dog but it's separation anxiety is gonna be its demise. This particular dog is 19mths and is getting roasted by the collar without success.

I would consider working something out with the right person. Gonna sit on her a little more cause I do really like her. She's one of the most beautiful and genetically gifted dogs I've ever seen.

Had the same problem with one of my females. ...got the collar listed above from TSC. Works fine until I give her a break...once she realizes it's off her neck the barking...NONSTOP begans....I hate to put it on her but it's the only way I can tolerate her barking...she's really clingy...everything I want in a female...just can bark for hours for nothing...
