True, but the iron line dogs have been kept as working dogs. Other lines such as Hemphill/Wilder are pet quality at best.
I don't care what people say about him or think about him, I've butted heads with him more than once. I've also attended many shows with him, IM is a true dogman breeding real Bulldogs.
Someone could do a lot worse getting started than getting a dog from Mike.

  3. Awesome responses. I am completely confident in saying that I am in NO WAY ready to think about any type of breeding. But I now have something to look for. Thank you all.

  4. I don't know anything about how to research peds and whatnot. But this is the pedigree on the sire to my pup.

Your the first person I respect that has said anything well about ironmike and his dogs,,,
I even get pms from individuals who got dogs from him and have nothing nice to say...

I do think that blood might make for a great catalyst but in small amounts,,,
but dont understand the theory in keeping something thats fading pure...

I read mayfields book and his pure theories got him no where as his blood faded also,,,
all the blood he knocked is still successful in alot of forms...

mayfield believed that only tight families breed true gameness and outcrosses create curs...

I would say feathering good lines only helps longevity but understand
that some inbred lines are game as they know nothing more,,,lol...

    great advice,,,
I dont care how old you are,,,
reading all books on the breed can only help you...

too many backyard breeders that breed the 2 dogs they have with no objective but puppies,,,wow...

Ive seen well bred dogs sold to these types to just deteriorate in a couple generations,,,
leaving the breeding up to those whom dedicated their life to it is very sound advice...

  7. I line breed wildside because for me reestablishing wildside as a top blood line is ultimately most important. It only takes on ass to ruin the whole line and I try to make sure that doesn't happen. All puppies from me are only sold under the condition that we keep our breeding in our circle

One thing I've learned, if you have to put stipulations on pups it's best not to sell any, because people rarely follow through.

wsk was a kennel who bred diffrent famley of dogs. was never a "top bloodline" becuase they used a lot of diffrent blood on there yard and bought a lot of older dogs they didnt have anything to do with. you got wsk bred by ed and you got wsk bred by chris shit I think even don juan got into breeding his own dogs at one point. see where bb going with this?

Yep, many lines of dogs have been bred in succession by numerous people, all about the route taken.

Very true. Some good dogs came from there but few were raised, campaigned and produced there. Most of the better known dogs were brought in later in life and bred back to their dogs. The Hollingsworth addition made some good ones.

Great post....Was just pondering myself how everyone has their own different meaning for the same word. So my tip is find a breeder that has the same meaning for the words used as you do.

Rarely do I breed dogs, but when I do it's based solely on Solid Performance First ............. and foremost..

We all supposed to be breeding to improve the dogs. Always trying to take it up a level. But many sell dogs and get others to pay to do their culling for them.
To each his own but to me I believe breeding should be done if you have the space and the dogs used must be proven dogs that are good representatives of their families, lines, strains. It doesnt mean we have to breed to our own dogs only but if necessary source a proven stud instead of just using a male on your yard because its yours.

Hell yeah couldn't agree more. If you've got a good bitch why waste her on an average stud? If I've got one I feel is worth breeding I'll travel the country for the right stud

Breeding dogs are very tricky you have to cross your fingers, toes and hope your lucky stars the breeding click. If you don't have game it won't be long before you crash and burn. We bred for. The love to do battle,a strong will to kill (finish),high end ability, deep gameness, hardmouth, roughness, wind, smarts, power, speed, durability, devastating pit styles
