You do have a point but maybe carver would not of done those breedings that Dr Wood done. So he did do his own thing. Also it was his decision to go to carvers yard to get those dogs. He could of got dogs from elsewhere but he didn't. The guy sounds like a doer to me. He deserves at least as much recognition as that write up gives, if not more...

  2. Dr. Kimsey Wood introduced me to the bulldogs in 1972 and I remained a friend until his death a few years back. If we had more men like him in the dog business we probably would be much better off, he was a good man with vast knowledge.

    did you own molly ?

  4. No, my brother owned molly, she was as fine of bitch as you could find anywhere! I owned trouble for a while, got him from Kimsey and also used a couple of dogs off that breeding.

So you owned Ch Chinaman then?

  6. Nope, brother got chinaman back from a non-bulldog family so Kimsey could send him to the guys in California who were not happy with a dog Kimsey had sold, they liked Chinaman, lol. I had Chinamans littermate onyx lady, and also used the dog, boy, that my brother kept from that same breeding.

what did you think about hargrove's spanky ?

  10. Both Hargroves and spanky were great in my opinion, of course Mr. Hargroves proved himself a true dogman, that's gone further than most for this wonderful breed.

Please tell us some stories about Boy, I always wanted to know what he looked like and how he
    compared to his litter

  12. Boy was a black dog, not as muscular as chinaman, but Randall put a harder test on him than I would have, and that's not criticizing, that's just Randall, he had to know to his satisfaction! I took boy somewhere into strong competition on a dog going for its championship, it didn't make it. But, it was a good dog, the problem was that boy could bite! It's been years ago but if my memory serves me correctly the atheletic dog was on top for about 30 mins or so finally boy did his damage from underneath came to top and it ended in about 20 mins more. Boy had good air and bite and he was game. Molly was hard and put it in her offspring, trouble was game and put it in his offspring.

    Good thread.

My first dogs were down out of Snooty and Miss Pool Hall Red. Mr. Woods was up in NC visiting in the late 70's, maybe as early 80/81.

I got a runt out of litter of two good dogs. He was a mess and never really came together. I was a young boy back then. If they ran the match dogs on the mill for an hour at night I ran mine for two hours in the morning. That dog could breathe for hours but had zero other qualities. The only thing he ever did was hook me on these dogs.

Mr. Woods was an educated man and I can remember him telling us two boys the importance of reading. We were like 12, out of school for the summer and this man had fell and bumped his head if he thought we were going to read a book. I can chalk that one up to another valuable lesson offered and I refused. LOL

Nice post! Although I'm sure we were at several functions back in the day I never got the privilege of meeting him! Very good epitaph!

I was like 11 or 12. Meeting him was nothing much. He was like any other dog man that came to my best friend's house. Just another Saturday or Sunday.

Looking back, there were some that went on to do some big things in the dogs. Made some marks.

I laugh now as I just had the conversation with a neighbor;s kid about school and its importance. He is 15. it is the summer, he has a permit and a driver's liscense is at the end of the tunnel. I'm hoping at least some of it sunk in. Maybe Mr. Woods was thinking the same.
