Lawsuit aimed at pit bull ordinance back on track

Denver, CO -- A lawsuit to overturn Aurora's pit bull ordinance is still alive after an Arapahoe County District Court judge discovered it was thrown out in error.

Judge Michael Spear last week dismissed the lawsuit filed by Khristina Villani because he believed she hadn't responded to the city's request to dismiss the case.

In actuality, Villani's response had been misplaced.

So "due to the confusion," Spear said Wednesday that the case is back on track, with the city now asked to respond to the lawsuit alleging that the ordinance is unconstitutional.

The ordinance gives pit bull owners until Jan. 31 to license their dogs with the city at a cost of $200, have them neutered or spayed, and have secure kennels set up in the owner's backyard.

Pit bull owners also must have at least $100,000 in liability insurance, post warning signs in their front yards, and have their dogs muzzled when off their property.

The ordinance prohibits new pit bulls in the city.

Violations carry fines of at least $700, and owners found guilty could spend up to a year behind bars.

  2. HOW DO YOU POST THINGS SO OTHERS CAN READ & RESPOND TO THEM?

Hey all. I am new on this site and I have a very interesting article I found while reading my local newspaper today. I have no clue how to post things as articles for everyone to read, so hopefully someone explains how to me for next time! CHECK OUT THIS SMALL ARTICLE!

FREMONT, Calif. - A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officer who was escorting a teenager home after a traffic stop, authorities said.

The officer suffered minor injuries, including bites to his ankle, Detective Bill Veteran said.

The five Chihuahuas escaped the 17-year-old boy's home and rushed the officer in the doorway Thursday, authorities said. The teenager had been detained after the traffic incident.

The officer was treated at a hospital and returned to work less than two hours later.

WOW! SEE THIS PROVES TO ALL THOSE THAT SAY PITS ARE FEROCIOUS OTHER BREEDS ARE JUST AS BAD, IF NOT WORSE! IMAGINE BEING ATTACKED BY A PACK OF LITTLE ANKLE BITERS! OUCH! NOTICE THE ARTICLE SAID HE WAS TREATED AT THE HOSPITAL. I WONDER WHY THIS ISN'T AS HIGHLY PUBLICIZED AS THE DOGS IN CHICAGO. JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW NARROW MINDED AND IGNORANT SOME PEOPLE CAN BE ASSUMING ALL DOG ATTACKS ARE FROM PITBULLS. PASS ON THIS STORY SO OTHERS CAN SEE THAT SMALL DOGS ATTACK JUST AS OFTEN AS BIG DOGS, BUT NEVER MAKE ANY HEADLINES.

    Your preaching to the choir....

All dogs have the ability to bite. However when a APBT bites it can be fatal or cause serious harm.To compare a pack of Chihuahuas to a pack of ill handled and most likely ill bred APBT (Not bred to standard) is offensive ...in all forms. Show's your lack of compasion and your inability to empathise or sympathise with those who are victimized.

This breeds not everyone, close the circle.

    Regards.
