Just finished Bishop's (aka half sac / lil one nut) dog house this weekend. I had some left over 2x4s from a fence I built over the summer, so I just picked up two sheets of 3/4" plywood, and build it.

I'm going to pick up some Styrofoam insulation this weekend and cut out squares to fit in between the walls. I made the top removable to easily clean and change bedding.

That's a good design, I've built a few just like it and my dogs stay toasty in the winter!

Thanks guys. I was happy he took to it so quickly. I think he'll be much happier out in his dog run thru the day while I'm at work, instead of kennelled inside, now that he has a cozy doghouse. I'll post another pic of the whole setup once it's complete.

I use a similar design with my own touch. Did you insulate the floors? I would recommend treating the wood also to help protect from the elements and blue skin or shingle the roof.

IMO your entrance is way to big.. the smaller the better to help maintain the interior temp.

For the floor I used a weather treated 4x4, cut up to keep the house off the ground, cedar chips on the floor should help pad and insulate as well....they don't complain...lol

Considering putting on some sort of flap.

Nice.. some dogs will use and understand the flap others will rip it off. I make the door opening a little bigger then shoulder Widths and 2" bigger for the height. You may want to add bumpers around the door due to the fact that is the first place to wear and you can easily replace them every few years.
Your handle would suggest that you get more of the harsh elements then most reading this. Good job on the house and your pup looks loved and well cared for. Thumbs up man!

Some people.use the flaps.. I feel the turn serves the same purpose as the flap.(to stop wind from getting in..as nature boy said most dogs will tear it off..I know most of mine is

i double walled and insulated between the sleeping part and the entrance part , i also put a false ceiling over the sleeping part so i could insulate the top
