Dog not interested in spring pole?

Discussion in 'Products & Equipment' started by Casperworldpeace, Dec 29, 2016.

  1. anyone have this before?

I have the stillwater setup, with the firehose tug, I set it up outside on a tree when he was around 8 months old, showed initial interest for about 20min , then was uninterested, i left it outside for another week, he never touched it unless i would go over there and nudge the tug toy, even then he would just bark and lunge/mouth at it.

I put it away for seven months and took it back out this morning , this time set it up in the garage, again with the fire hose tug, and same thing, he will sit there and bark at the thing and mouth the tug toy, but no solid hold or pull.

I have tried both setting the toy up high where he has to jump and low so its right at his face level. Also if i take the tug toy and just toss it around the yard he will go crazy over it, and if will pull on it if i have it in my hand, but the moment i hook it up to the spring pole he just barks at

Try using a hide instead of a toy or the firehose.

You stimulating the dog is bringing out the prey drive better than the inanimate object. The hide might help on the pole because it tastes better than the hose but I think the solution may be you being the spring pole. Teach the dog control and wait coiled for your command to hit it. Maybe you can transfer to the spring pole at some point once the dog knows what you want and he gets the addiction for biting it. This is fun stuff to bond with your pal. While the spring pole certainly works for some dogs, I prefer to tug with my dogs. More effective in many ways IMO. As long as the material is safe and allows a good grip, my dogs don’t care what it is.

I'd suggest a hide also. Make the dog tug on it when you're holding it and it's attached to the spring pole. Eventually they forget about you.
