Out of everyone I told only the man who gave me my start believed me. I started introducing my female to her birthing box a week ago at night. I put her back on her chain in the morning around 6 and at 7 I looked outside because my other dogs were raising hell. I seen a big healthy looking stray ass to add with my female. Keep in mind she was 6 weeks pregnant at this point. A lot of blood, vet said definitely there was penetration. This beauty wolf looking thing raped my female. Wild kingdom stuff...trying to kill off another males offspring?

I am surprised your bitch let him mount her (assuming your bitch is a bulldog) as most females will only let a male mount them when in heat.

I know...she's heavy nigerino with a touch of renegade and cowboy, but the thing is she's stone cold. I mean cold as ice...so maybe that has something to do with it?

My thoughts too, another reason not to breed cold dogs, of course each to their own.

"If you are feeding the dog, you are the only person that needs to be happy with it"

I will add though that if you are BREEDING the dog, you are responsible for the happiness of whoever ends up with the puppies.

I know there's a lot of dispute about breeding cold dogs and people go back and forth on all the time, but I gotta tell ya it's my first time doing it and really I'm just hoping to bring something out of her because to be honest I feel like I've been losing a step.....I'm keeping and raising the whole litter and sorting it out later. That's if she drops any because she's still spot bleeding.

Can't quit if it never started

Can’t do ANYTHING because it never started.

I feel the same about cold dogs. There are too many good, even “ok”, dogs that have started to fool with a cold gyp. Even if she was the very last in somethin I was trying to preserve, I would look elsewhere. If she throws the cold gene into your pool you really will take some steps back. Good luck tho. Hope things come out the best.

FUCK THAT WOLF OR COYOTE! I’d be lookin for some revenge.... nice throw for the living room or a stuffed reminder TO GO FUCK MY NEIGHBORS DOG!!

That shit was funny bro...man when I seen that shit going down I was off the porch in my socks all through the mud with a shovel I grabbed along the way. I promise you I was trying to take the suckers head off.....I do feel what your saying on the cold dogs and maybe I got a touch of the " but that's my dog syndrome "...I've ran the same line for so long that it's hard to let it pass. I have recently started grabbing animals from some different lines that I have been impressed with.

So are you hoping to be a breeder of gamedogs or coldogs?

Damn man that's crazy...Ive been doing this for sometime and I do love my dogs but they work for there spot. The female in particular has never been bred before for a reason. She is very heavy nigerino and down through a dog that was a legit ch that you don't see a lot of. In fact a man that I know who has been bulldogging since 77 and still very active wants one of the pups. This topic will forever be debated but to say that cold dogs never threw heat is ludicrous. In fact Abernathy wrote a pretty interesting article concerning all the cold females that threw solid dogs. This isn't my common practice and I think years down the road concerning my line and the competition. I did say earlier that I feel like I'm losing a step in my dogs so I am very objective. "Question, if anyone seen a dog that was cranked over without having to be turned on and you liked what you saw in the intensity would that change your mind once you found out the dam was cold?"

I didn't say cold never threw heat. I was prompting you to think about just what traits you are breeding for. It's called Selective Breeding for a reason.

I have been using Selective Breeding for twenty years & guess what? No cold dogs from my breeding programme. Never. Not one!

Of course every single dog you ever bred was heavily screened before breeding right. That's gotta be because how do you know what's hot or cold unless you check. Now now before you start getting upset think about this....I'm sure you know how old spook was when clement and Boudreaux bred her to Eli. She was a baby, there was no telling what she was but without the breeding based only on blood 75% of the dogs that you know today wouldn't be. Mr burt sorrel never touched any females he bred based on his logic of women are made to produce babies. Ain't no telling what he bred into but he definitely had some notable success. Mtn man himself bred females that he had no idea about and never did based on blood. Couldn't selective breeding also include breeding based on percentages? Mr garners dog young cow girl was block ice cold and he bred the shit out of her. Food for thought.... maybe there something to just rolling dice. Worst case scenario I have all shit. If not though then I'm s fuck'n genius. By no means am I taking a shot but this is why I finally joined this sight. I like debates over dogs and peoples views, because I'm also trying to learn and that will never change.

His name is Clemmons. Hot & cold are ends of the aggression spectrum. I don't breed for aggression, in fact the loon that goes off his head at every bird or because I'm patting his neighbour gets negative points when I consider him as brood stock.

The guys you mentioned had so many dogs (& fans wanting something off them) that a few more holes to dig didnt matter. And remember where I said if you are feeding the dog only you need to be happy with it?

Leave you with this: What couple will produce better tennis players?

Andre Agassi / Steffi Graf or
    Roger Federer / Mrs Federer

No hits from me either, just facts.

I know is name brother...auto correct and spell check. Ones a muther and the other I don't do. No bull shit man I appreciate the debate. I might end up feeding a pile of shit for a few years. One more thing...so what's take on selective breeding also including blood percentages? That's for you kiwidogman.

Dude I wish you well & hope your gyp is ok & gives you some good ones.

Not a fan of breeding using blood percentages, to me it's another spin on paper breeding. We've all seen cases where littermates look & perform nothing alike. Identical on paper though right?

When I did this breeding I got three brindle noisy run all day types like ma, a black alligator like dad, a buckskin black tail like dads dad, & a red/red nose like Peaches. I saw representatives of each family (Honeybunch Rascal Red Boy) As they grew sure enough they developed into what I was expecting based on their genotype.

Dixie was brindle won in 2.14
Murphy was brindle lost dg 2.32
Hammer, Spiderman, Joe Montana all brindles.

To sum up I like to breed for type. So I breed to type. For example If I want some Buck blood Im not breeding to a rangy black dog no matter how nice the ped. I'm looking to inject the heavy bone & big teeth of the Maloney blood so the dog needs to represent that eg Machobuck

This is fun, Im enjoying my day off! Thanks!

So do you subscribe to the idea that the best box dogs are scatter bred?

  18. kiwidogman

    kiwidogman Top Dog

No. I dont believe in absolutes. The best dogs usually come from the best breeders. Family bred dogs are usually more consistent & consequently if you know your family they are more predictable. As a bonus you can often cull one without having to feed it past a year as experience tells you all you need to know about him & his future in your breeding programme. This is what you want if you are breeding for the long game. However if you are happy to use chain spots as a way to turn dog food into worm food (with the trade off of getting the occasional wonder dog) scatter breeding seems the way to go!

Dont confuse an outcross of two families as scatter breeding. It is an outcross. The breedings done with those outcross dogs can give their offspring the label scatterbred or linebred.

Thanks, I can only keep 15-20 dogs so I've done a lot of thinking about these things.
