on the evening news the other day was this dapper Texas Ranger, discussing his “exclusive interview”, with the most prolific serial murderer in US history. I’m sure some of you saw the clip. now geriatric and incarcerated, the suspect discussed his killing spree of 80+ women over several decades with the TX Ranger. Guy even sketched the faces of his female victims.

i noted the tone of the news story was how skilled of an interviewer/interrogator the Texas Ranger was in order to extract the confession. not really imo… no critique of the good Ranger though. often suspects not only can’t keep their mouths shut, but can’t resist openly talking about themselves and how good they are at their craft. down to the smallest details. no coercion needed, very few psychological tactics…

what does this have to do with puppy prices? nothing I suppose. i just thought it was interesting.

They look good in a frame hung up on the wall, OG. You don't do that too? lol..

If it was DNA you be able to breed one of these dogs to any other breed of dog and still get gamedogs since DNA is passed down from parents to offspring reguardless of breed or even species. I don't know of any winning APBT x Collies etc. out there. That's why I don't believe it to be a gene. If it was, then you could outcross to other breeds and still bring that gameness gene to the offspring of that cross.

I believe it to be a trait due to many generations of selective breeding for that specific trait due to the dogs purpose.

Jm2c but I'm not a dna scientist so it's just my own theory and what I myself believe.

Got this from another Fred. Put this in a frame up on the wall, folks. @slim12 just says it best :D
This is the simple answer to all of the breeding questions in general. lol

I think it's just not about a single gene. I would say it's a combinations of genes. The right combinations of genes.
I do not think there is 'only one' possible combi for gameness. And that's the gamble how I see it. You roll the dice and you get different combis.
Now just cheat a little and put only the 6 on the dice, this way you will always get the highest possible number.
And now just rate your dogs and do the math. :D
So, for me the answer is still DNA.
Crossing out to another breed gives you percentage wise less 'gameness-combis'. The pit in this example got what or how many 'gameness-combis' in his DNA ?
How to get that number ? Well, with checking the family of the dog. What percentages do they show ?
10% game dogs in that family ? That's good. ? Or let's say it's ok. However, that's the number. 10%.
The Collie got maybe 0-1%. Now you might think this will give you 5% game dogs from the cross. But the reality looks different, of course.
If it is about the 'right combinations of genes', then we have to start with the 'weakest link in the chain'.
That's the Collie. 0-1%. Now add the 10% of the game dog ... and voila ! :-B:D

And AGK, good morning or good night ? lol

Even better ... the right combinations of the right genes. How you start is how you end ?

While it may not apply to you, many others wish to show their dogs in conformation, weight pull, wall climb etc and to do that in a sanctioned group they need to be registered with the registry.

I keep track of my own dogs by handwritten pedigrees along with pedsonline and ADBA.

To each their own but I myself also want the papers with any dog I purchase for the same reasons mentioned. It's an individuals prefrence.

I sort of learned this the hard way, well at least the breeder and the other customers did anyway.

My room mate in the service was a K-9 Handler. He was all into the dogs. He had a working Malinois as a service dog and his dogs of preference were Rottweilers. He went thru the process of importing a young male. The male had not been here 2 weeks and he had emergency orders back over seas.

I had just got out and he asked me to keep the dog for a few months which turned into him being stationed there for a couple of years.

I ended up with an imported Rottweiler that was way smarter than me with way more ability than me and ten times the working dog I had ever seen.

In order for the rest of the litter to be registered he had to be X-rayed with OFA good or PennHipp so many points below the breed median. He had to be titled by a recognized working outfit (3rd party). The entire litter had to pass the Xrays or no one got 'pink papers' or at least that is what they called them a hundred years ago.

Other customers were willing to pay to have him Xrayed in order to get their dogs registered. It was quite over whelming for me as I was not all that into papers on dogs anyway, but my dog needing to be one way so another guy could register/breed his dogs was out of this world.

I started with some videos and some working groups and I always tell people I was a certified Sch b, within an arm's reach of Sch I. That is simply how well that dog trained me. Way more dog than I was owner or handler.

He received a passer rating in both obedience and bite work, his forced retrieve was flawless. I was too stupid to get the tracking down so I held him back. Back to the original post, there were tracking trainers and seminars available but I wanted to spend that money like I wanted another hole in my head. Too much for more than I was into the sport.

So in come circles papers and the requirements for such mean a lot....

While I agree some people want them for shows. Most want them to peddle pups OR hang on the wall because they're so proud of their pretty papered dog. JMHO.

Me , and also probably @old goat , also like to get papers with a 'new purchase', but I do not need to register them in my name, maybe even changing the original name.
No need for future paper work. If I would give a dog away then this would be without papers.
It never was a problem to register what ever and whenever you want, so no trouble for the new owner. Just register the dog IN YOUR name. lol

This is very simple, 5k for a future ch or grch is low price, 1k for a cur is high price, the question is when you buy a puppy do you know what it will be in the future? That sums up the price of a puppy.
    Greetings to everyone
