I'll add Mr. LG to the list as well. Like my other one, LG is just fine with not being well known. Working and producing honest bulldogs was the concern.

Good choice Treez, LG brings to mind the Tuckers...

The Cottinghams were on top of the game and were understudies of the rastaman....
Tom Ratliff was exceptional and a long time devotee that seeked extreme compition...
You let the oldman HHargroves tell it and he schooled t.ratliff and g.c.ham, but respected them deepley as the tide turned and they started beating him...

I respect all three families, man and bulldog as they used what they created and were complete in all three aspects of the game...
The Tuckers, The Ratliiffs and The Cottinghams left alot to be desired...

Shit id been happy riding around in that station wagon from town to town with pete sparks, documenting it all!!!
Or withLarry McCaw in his old wagon with going light barney as his understudy and child mechanic did, Indian Sonny was said to be crawling around under the hood before he was ateen and working on McCaws car with his dad got him involved with the bulldogs...
Besides some of Sonnys trickery similar to the silver fox, his understanding of bulldogs came as young man with an old soul that kept him in the winners circle...
His schooling, conditiong, handeling and family of dogs are second to none...

A few come to mind......The War Eagle, for standing his ground and taking what ever came his way for what he believed in.

The King of the Pit Earl Tudor the name says it all.

Coy Dickinson for his No Bull attitude and workhorse work ethic. Another notable resume. Not to mention his knowledge of the line I chose to work with. VALUABLE INSIGHT.

AMIGO! Couldn't go without mention...You know who you are as does everybody else here...lol. Honestly it's almost as if he was one of my mentors.

Last but not least Maurice Carver of coarse. The impact of the breedings made and the things he had his hands in. Not to mention I'd be probably the only person who knew the truth of them peds....lol.

Mr.creel was hated on by lots of folks. I think its because him lg,mt, and Kirkland was wacking oponints. The last of his dogs was on the same yard as grch ajax.

I mentored under a pretty good guy so I am thankful I did not make a lot of mistakes a lot of people do, and maybe even better said a lot of the the problems out there I did not have to work thru alone. If that makes sense.

But for the topic, I would pick Mr. Calvin Krebbs. I believe he bred and raised Red Boy. He had a yard full of deep game dogs. Odds are none were papered and the majority of the ones left his yard were papered as something else. (Red Boy)

For me, his best attribute is that he more than likely created the most influential dog of all time and maybe a handful of people on the planet know anything about him. I am a huge fan of anonymous dealings.

I'm a huge Redboy fan @slim12 glad you shared the story on Calvin Krebbs, it's one I won't forget. I was lucky to have been around some of best UK dogs of the 80s-90's, have to admit though, most of us just learned as we grew, knowledge was scarce, we picked up tips where we could, learned from our own mistakes and those of others, personally had dogs in shows, coats dust cloud dry and they won, still amazes me today :-O

pre internet, mentoring was a faster path to knowledge, maybe a necessity even. multiple social media platforms plus human nature to brag and resist keeping thy fucking mouth shut...well that mitigates the need for in person instruction, somewhat.

End of the day this may be the best learning method.

Other ways be slightly quicker to the prize but sometime going the 'harder' way ensure the lessons sink in and I think there has to be some extra appreciation for clearing hurdles. LOL

It's always good to get pointers from people that's more experienced than yourself, but I couldn't really say I got any? The atmosphere in UK during 80's so competitive, people more likely to give wrong advice to sabotage your dog than anything to help.. The real breakthrough for me was when I bought 'Dogs of Velvet & Steel' by Bob Stevens.. Someone who knew about working dogs & nutrition, had access to all the people @F.W.K. mentioned in his wish list of mentors, so I guess for me the reality is my best mentor was Bob Stevens book, but if I could have chosen just one mentor, to learn from and gone hunting with, then that would be Lonzo Pratt snr.
