Any Bow Hunters or just Hunters in general?

Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by AGK, Aug 31, 2020.

  1. Maybe the bows were powerfuller because they had to shoot em long range in warfear?

Something to consider i guess.maybe they had powerfull bows for long distence warfear.and small ones for shorter distences for hunting up close to there prey?

Got my new bow all set up for me now after waiting 2 weeks for a stupid accessory to my cams just so I could change the draw length. First time getting to shoot it today.. After an hour, it's all sighted in and ready reek havoc on some woodland creatures. Lol.

This Hoyt is so fast and quite compared to my PSE.

Worked all day, target shooting in the afternoon and a little perch fishing in the evening.

Her and my last shot of the evening. She shot first, blue and white fletchings and I shot second with the green and white fletchings. Anything walks in front either of us in the woods and it's dead AF. Lol.

Wax the strings and put em away to do it all over again tomorrow.

  6. Awesome man.
wish i could shoot that straight!

What do you wax the stings with?

  7. AGK

AGK Super duper pooper scooper Administrator

A synthetic wax. It protects the string from drying out and fraying. Also protects from moisture on the string.

  8. Arrr you know i dont do synthetics lol.i was gonna ask for the recipe but ill guess there is silicone in it?

Im a wax neard AGK.been studieing wax and oils for naturel fibers for about three years now.
i treat every thing.boots.coats. wool stuff you name it.ive used sythetic fibers before and treated them to.
but im all for naturel fibers now.

    All the best AGK.YIS.

  9. Ide say i started waxing cloths five years ago.i started of waxing cotton synthetic blends.i noticed with cotton synthetic blends the best wax what works, is a mixture of a naturel wax with a parrafin or a synthetic wax.the best blend i found for cotton synthetic blends was a cheap candle witch was a blend of palm wax and parrafin..
i had high sucsess with this combo...but now ive changed.(ive just come up with a new blend, and ill say how good it us when im good and ready.that is;when its tryed and tested in the feild.)
ive just waxed a pair of sweud leather boots as i right this.and i used just pure renderd down pork fat from a joint of pork i boiled up eariler..
in the past ive even re waxed synthetic fabrics like tents and coats by rubbing pure patroliem jelly(vasaline),and melting it into the fabric.this worked pretty well i have to say..
i treat all wool garments with pure lanolin, and nothing elese.anything whats 70%+ wool i treat with pure lanolin..

Just thought ide say..maybe a tip what will help someone.or maybe the rambilng of a mad man-wax/oil nerd.
    lol
    all the best.

I know some of the old timers use burts beeswax. The problem with non synthetics is they'll trap in dirt particles that will eventually rub into the twisted cable that is the bow string causing friction and eventually wearing of the string. If you change your bowstring though every 3 years like is recommended it shouldn't really be a problem.

  11. Im not sure what burts beeswax is,but ive used beeswax mixed with parrafin to for cotton synthetic blends aswell.it comes a close secound to the palm wax parrafin blend candle i said.the palm wax parrafin blend was slightly more water proof but smelt like a candle lol.the beeswax parrafin blend smelt rather nice.apart from that there was not much diffrence and both blends work fine.over wax with any of these and with the palm wax blend your cloths will get white marks and with the beeswax blend your cloths will get brownish marks.thats only if you over do it.
both blends are easy to buy or make.both blends are the best for cotton/poly or cotton/nylon.look at the sweadish cloths company Fjallraven.all there fabric is called g1000.and its a light canvas type weave thats 65%polyester and 35%cotton.there wax they sell for this fabric is called greenland wax and is 65%parrafin and 35% beeswax.
they have besn succsefull with the wax clothing thing for over thirty years.there methods are nothing new however, and there garments are way way way over priced.
so is the wax they sell.as its around thirty/forty quid a kilo.

i dont no what the old timers would of used on there bow strings?i read somthing about the Highlanders using meat fat or walnut oil.but the real methods the Highlanders used are lost to the history books and most theorys are just speculation.
so although it seems likely they may well have used meat or walnut oil, dont mean im advising you to try it.lol.
might be worh trying on a old bow string?
haha lol, hers me going on and i dont even no what the bow strings are made of!
im sure the old times would of made the string out of anything.im sure you can? theres a lot of things they would of used.nettel fibers and all kinds.
    hemp
    flax
    all kinds.

    Im rambling now.all the best.

One of my best friends, someone I've known since I was 8 years old started up a business.

    20200926_101759.jpg

I support my family and will be pumping his product on various social media platforms, including this thread. I get nothing for this. This is my life long homeboy, only kennel partner ever associated with me and frankly, I'm proud AF of him so I'll do it for that reason alone.

As he gets everything in order to actually launch the site and everything (2 products are here now and available currently) I'll be putting things on here since it's very relevant to this topic plus it will allow me to get things in order as everything starts to come together to completion. I'll even throw in my point of view to the products as I'll be using them myself because they are straight up ingenious. If you have ever been lost in the woods like we have, many times, you know that gut sinking feeling where what started out to be fun hunt turns into a very possible survival situation because you become lost. It's an unnerving feeling to say the least. I'll go in more depth a little later. Got to help my godmother move. Lol. If you hunt though, his product deerlishious will bring in the big bucks and I'll talk about that to aswell as post the trail cams set up in the area we hunt.

    These are the illuminated pathfinders.
We all know the story of Hansel and Gretel. They leave a trail of breadcrumbs while in the woods so they could find their way back easily. That's exactly what this is. Except your not leaving bread but instead an LED light with a clip that will attach securely to pretty much anything and it's a very strong clip so there is no worry it will be blown off by high winds, rain etc. Very sturdy clip. 6 come in a pack and you can see these things from very far away when it's dark in the woods. 6 lights come in a pack for $24.99.

Got plenty with more on the way.

Also has available Deerlishous Buck Grub. It's a blend of various things like dry oats, barley, sunflower seed, cranberries etc. along with several other things. The trail cams don't lie as to how effective this stuff is at attracting mature Bucks. No doe's have been caught on the camera just Bucks and they come back again and again for it.
    Comes in a 10lb bucket for $20.00.

    Shit works well!

The proof is in the pudding!

The wet formula is thick syrup type mixture and the dry is a brown sugar mix.
Even had a black bear visit.

Lol I wouldn't even want to. Honestly, I can't pull back 70lb. No idea how people can pull back 200. It's a tiny muscle group that is used to pull back a bow. I doubt if I could put 200lbs up on a bench press currently and thats a major muscle group.

Lol those aren't even the big ones. Keep in mind we hunt with in 5 miles of where we live at right outside the city limits. You get into the deep woods like the Alleghany Mountain area that goes through the entire middle of the state and you got some Boone n Crockett ranked racks. The bear are twice the size as well. Pennsylvania is an A1 prime Whitetail hunting state. It's rare I'll give this state a compliment but the deer population is managed very well here. Many other species too. PA Game Commission is top notch.
