Not at all. Very risky. The likelihood that you loose her and the litter as well, if she even were to take, is pretty high at that age. Along with a ton of other things that could go wrong due to the bitches age. A 13 year old male, yes. A female, no.

  2. its been done but I reckon between the succes stories there probably the same amount of failures
basically around 7 to 8 it is advised by many vets to actually sterilize a bitch
I also took a risk with a older bitch if I remember she was 10 , it ended up in a big screw up , had to remove everything surgically and she ended up with serious seizures probably due to old age and anesthesia
I couldn't see her suffer as she established a bloodline and was a great producer , I cried like a baby the day I decided to euthanize her ( cause in the end a dog dont care about making ROM we do )

  7. You don’t know my situation or why I thought about breeding her, I’m sure breedings have been done with older females so let’s not act like it isn’t possible. You don’t feed or fund my dogs so worrie about your own yard

Wow that's like asking my 96 year-old grandmother to be a surrogate for my wife.

Sure, breed her. She might even take and get pregnant but the chance she has any live pups is nil at best.
What will likely happen is she isn’t able to give birth, the pups die inside her and you (and your vet) is left with a real mess to take care of.

Did you just get the dog? Why didn't you breed her in the younger years if she been on the yard.

I'm not a breeder. I have stated that often.

First, never ask a question unless the answers are actually wanted. Mostly because I am of the mindset that if you feed'em/you breed'em if that is what you want to do. it is no one else's business.

But when you ask, it becomes someone else's business/you get there input.

I did some swapping a trading once for an older female. I seen her brothers/sisters. I owned a few of her half brothers. She was a super healthy bitch. One that was older but acted and carried herself as a really young dog.

I bred her at 9, 11 and 12 years old. She lived to be over 14.

The difference is I did not come to a public forum and ask what I should do with one of my dogs.

    Double edged sword I suppose.

You asked a question. You got an answer. I agree with everyone else. Don't do it.

  16. im not going breed her was hoping for some successful stories and got none. But the insults will probably stop someone from asking a honest question. A simple “yes”or “no” and maybe an explanation would’ve been fine but saying something the dumbest question ever ask and worried about someone’s dogs wasn’t called for honestly. But I’m been over it .

It is probably not the best idea but at the end of the day it is your dog/your business/your decision.

People are passionate about these dogs. There will always be insults and sarcasm when passion is involved.

I'd weigh my options and then do what works best in my situation. I'm not a breeder and I have not bred a lot of dogs so the ins and outs of breeding an older female is not really my cup of tea. I did it because it worked for me.

As crass as it may seem sometimes (a lot of times) these dogs are a meaning to an end. My older bitch had been kept really well over the years and was a really healthy older dog. I bred her very late in life because she was my vehicle to her siblings/relatives from years earlier. If I had a ton of those dogs I would have note risked it, moreso than I hate raising puppies than the risk of an older female.

When the dogs are used as a means to an end then coupe that with someone else's passion the responses can go from zero to a hundred and everywhere in between.

After a simple yes or no, would you of been left wondering why????....a lot of oldish type folks( knowledgeable experience...ideal) who can cut it up a bit rough.
....just give the old coots a bit of leeway because be PC is somewhat foreign
