Breeds that could defeat a Spotted Hyena or Wolf?

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Doc Holiday, Nov 28, 2020.

  1. I got his dogs of Britian book.
his opinion on history is pretty crazy like mine two.
infact i dont think there was a breed the guy never new about.
in his dogs of Britian book he mentions the ancester of the kerry blue was a breed called the 'Gadar'...man it took me years to find any other referance to this breed.i found some indication of it in Irish mytholigy, but apart from that nothing?how Hubbard new about it is beyound me.
theres a nice pic in his book of Mallans Gentleman Jim.and another nice pic of the Assyrian mastiffs of king Assurbainble.
original copy mine.dated in the 1950s.
He was a great writer of doggy origans for sure.i belive his reserch led him all around the world.

Did he ever speak about doggy history to you Stedz?

No i just used to see him on his stall at shows, and buy or order books from him,i couldnt even tell you what breed of dog he kept, but he was a real old gentleman, who always had time for people and a real encyclopedic knowledge of dog books etc.I had a mate who would buy some seriously old stuff from him at crufts every year.As long as you had the money he could get you anything.

the most common cause of IWH death is DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy). There are a lot of other breeds that have this....great dane, dobie, saint bernard, dalmation, chihuahua, afghan hound to name a few.

And the Kangal has a few health issues too. They are prone to hip displasia, Lipoma and Entropion.

  7. I could imagine his libery to be huge...

intrestingly (i just got his book out)he relates the broad headed groupe witch he calls "short faced pug type"?(weird)to dogs he calls 'Simocyon Primigenius'or 'Simocyon Dog'.
again like his 'Gardar'reference about the kerry blue,i cant find no account of this dog anywere.
worse still hes goes a step further and traces thd Simocyon dog to what he calls the 'Marsh Dog'.
and even more he links the Marsh dog to a Jackel like dog called 'Canis Mikii'.in the Neolithic or Palaeolithic period.

How he comes up with this even confuses me and i just worked out the origan of Adam!
tottaly baffiling how he comes up with this.

All the best Stedz..unusual topic for sure.

  10. Very much so,....he cites Canis,Carl von linne,and Buffon.
three people who were even crazier then Hubbard in there reserch.

Intrestingly though, he belives diffent breeds of dogs come from diffrent breeds of wolf due to geographic reasons.
Now that i do find intresting.
Hubbard,Plummer and Fiennes all share this view, its a well thought out opinion thats worthy of consideration i think.

  11. @stedz.

  14. the pictures were gross , gutted dogs in the yard , these wolves are huge
I recall watching a documentary once on hyena's and saw them cracking bones like they were chewing on a chicken bone
they have one of the hardest mouths in the universe , i was thinking damn someone gonna cross a dog with that shit one day , just to find out they were actually more cats than dogs

in regards to wolves they grow up to like 80 KG they will rip your dog apart , who comes up with these stories anyway?

I saw the photos from Serbia mate, fckn horrific, tragic to see good dogs eaten alive like that, remember the owner never even had a fence around them, must have been confident, although maybe not so much now!

  16. People who know no better come up with these storys mate..people who know no better or people who are brain washed of reading white fang.LOL.

Now its rear for somebody to admit a wolfs got the hardest mouth ,but i agree with you on that one as well mate.
there teeth are said to harldly ever break, and there teeth are fckn huge.
one snap could split bones in to small peices...

be a nightmear to have dogs on a yard were wolfs are present.

randy fox's web site ( I don't want to post the link) has some graphic photo's of a wolf attack on pitbulls. One had the caption "Napadvuka first attack by wolves" and another read "Napadvuka second attack by wolves"...third time lucky didn't happen....some fuckin idiots in the world.

One wolf ain't attacking these dogs its a pack of them. One bulldog getting attacked by one wolf the wolf will take off once they figure the bulldog ain't going out easy. Wolf's are curs that attack in numbers and will not risk there own well being for anything.
