I have been confronted a few times over the years by peoples unleashed dogs running up on us. My reaction to what happens depends on 3 factors mostly.

    1. Size, if it's under 40lbs and not aggressive I'll pick my dog up, I'll stomp my foot and yell while standing my ground. I'll do that while talking mad shit to the owner if they happen to be around. If the dog keeps coming, it's getting the boots put to it.
We have leash laws here and your dog should be on one for a reason. The owners usually see what their dog is running towards and start to panic and run frantically to us yelling he/she is friendly. I usually get pretty ignorant with them while letting them know that it's great that their mutt is friendly however, mine is not.

    2. 40lbs and bigger, this category depends on the dogs behavior. Most dogs are punks. All bluff and threatening displays of aggression with no real heart to follow through, especially to something that isn't backing down to it. I've never had one keep advancing on me once I start to stomp and yell. Most stop right in their tracts like yo, he ain't scared of me. Those dogs usually will back off once they realize you won't back down.

    3. The aggressive, over 40lb dog.
This mofo getting shot plain and simple. Like San Siro said, It's better to not let your APBT come into physical contact with someone's loose dog. I could see the front page news article now in large print, "PIT BULL MAULS BELOVED FAMILY PET".
Even though mine is leashed and the other is running free, our breed will take the blame. This category of dogs will get shot period. I would rather take a misdemeanor discharging a firearm in the city limits charge than I would a felony cruelty to animals charge while getting my dog put down.

Thankfully, I have yet to run into that 3rd category. I have backed down some pretty large dogs here and there over the years. Luckily for me, I don't panic and I'm not afraid of aggressive dogs so standing my ground has always worked for me. The day it don't, someone loosing their pet.

I own an 80 pound GSD. I certainly wouldn’t let him loose for no reason as it’s not only unsafe but illegal, and a serious civil liability. Besides many people around here carry, which often mitigates stupidity. But if I had to send him for good reason into an actual physical threat, I’d be alongside him ruining our enemy’s day - by any justifiable means.

Proper genetics plus a lot of training and proofing goes into building a reliable k9 defender, one that doesn’t piss him/herself when pressured by an aggressive human opponent.

Any properly bred and structured pit bull with the drives and trainability to do jiu jitsu with a human opponent while muzzled…I’d like to see (and possibly get a pup from).

Most people don't own those types of dogs. At least around here. I would not try to stand my ground with an aggressive attack breed like Shepard, Doberman, Rottweilers etc.

They more than likely own a backyard bred type version who's nerves are shot. Not actually working dogs.

Those that do own those types of dogs ( the trained defense dogs) are usually much more involved and in control of their animals than the general public is with theirs.

Lol I was actually just bit 3 weeks ago by a very large German Shepard. The land owners who's area I hunts dog. My daughter and I went up to the house to say hi before we left the woods and tell them someone put a blind up on their property. She let us in her enclosed front porch and once in, damn dog started being an asshole. I turned to my side to be less confrontational with it and it cur bit me twice real quick. Thankfully I had all my hunting layers on still or I'd of felt it worse.

Some of the best we had around were raised in the inner city. Personally I never walked in public places.

Don't take me wrong. I would hate to be put in a position where my only option is shooting the dog. However we have leash laws here for a reason. If I have to abide by them I feel the person who's dog is running loose should also.

Therfore, I walk in less public areas and I tend to do it more in the late evening when less people, and their animals, are out.

Fortunately for me I have corn fields n soy bean fields n a very long power line behind my home...I try to stay secrete as possible as my dogs don't back down from anything so even if nothing happens when seeing another dog. My dogs be pulling and digging to get them so to avoid weird stares n any possible accident I stick to the back woods

It's a lot different now compared to the past and suppose this mostly applies to keeping dogs in urban areas, but people know what a bulldog is now, where as in past they just saw another dog, plus them mobile phones with cameras on just a curse if any accidents happen.. I've had loads of incidents with dogs, sometimes with my own dogs and different times with other peoples.. I had leads snap, D rings break, collar malfunctions and idiots deliberately setting their dogs on me while I'm out walking.. I always try to not judge people if they have an accident since it could happen to anyone, and for any number of reasons.

I used to take one of my dogs to a local park late in summer evenings when it was still light, but nice and quiet.. My dog was off leash chasing a ball and we was having a great time together, I could see both park entrances and coast was clear to continue, when 3 young kids and a Yorkshire terrier entered the park through a gap in some high bushes, now my dog would never bite a human, so no problem, but the Yorkshire terrier was toast.. My dog shot straight for it full sprint, in a panic I scream at the kids to pick up the Yorkshire terrier (not smart) they lift up the Yorkie, my dog takes off into mid air from around 6 feet away and snatches the Yorkshire terrier right out of the little girls hands, actually it was as graceful as fuck how he did it, never even made contact with the girl, landed around 5 feet away from her with the Yorkie in his mouth..

So it's 50/50 situation, the bet is on red or black because my dog will kill any male, but would never touch a female next thing I see is he's rolling on his back like a fucking idiot and starts playing with the Yorkie, all the kids are laughing and trying to cuddle him, totally unaware of what would have happened if the Yorkie had been a male.. I was chalk white, hands shaking, told the kids it was nice watching the dogs play together but time to go and they was still waving at my dog when I left the park.. I could go on and on, but it's hard keeping dogs in city and not having odd accident, whether people should keep bulldogs in city is another conversation, but most bulldog owners I know try to avoid contacts with other dogs.. Fact is that's a lot easier if you live in the country.

I love all breeds. I have a huge 12 by 8 poster in my pool table room of all dogs rolling the dice and playing cards. But a pit is holding all the aces. Its a beautiful piece.
