i was considering showing this girl she is ukc and adba registered so anyway i was looking at the judging info on both sites it says long tail is a fault well my girl's tail is about 2 inches past the point of the hock (where it is supposed to be) my question is should i forget about trying to show her or what also she is only 9 months old is there any chance she may grow into the tail (this may be a dumb ? but i have never payed to much attention to the tails) here are some pics those with experience please critique her also she is a blue dog so if that offends you please look away now thanks in advance

Although its a fault, it shouldnt deter you from showing her. Every dog has SOME fault, whether it be big or small. I couldnt care less about how long a tail is...but I know there are some people who will. Basically, just show her and have fun with her, all a show is , is paying for someone elses opinion on your dog...just enjoy it and heed their advice.

She is only 9 month sold as well. Some faults present while young disapear after they grow some. At 6 months, a senior jude for the UKC stated that Dixie had a single fault, she seemed slightly "roachback" and at age 1 year, it was gone. I am sure it doesnt just go away, but her conformation was corrected as she grew more. Now she is conformationally correct so to speak.

I agree w/14rock, have fun and show her. You never know what you are gonna be up against, and what their faults will be. Compared to your dogs slight fault, there outta be a good chance w/ her winning if she is as close to standard as you think she is.

Do you have a good set of rules for the standard? If not lemmie know, I do.

Good luck, Im sure she'll do great. Not every dog is cut out for show, but if you beleive you have potential w/ her, what have you got to lose??

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

at 9 months its hard to tell, as many are going through what I call the inbetween stage..basically it is that of a child going into their gangly teenage years where the body is changing in all directions...

UKC allows cropped ears, but not cropped tails. Also, the judges have prefrences, personal prefrences. If you have two identical dogs, same tail fault, one w/ ears cropped and the other w/ rose, and the judge "likes" rose, that one would win.

You can go online and request personal data sheets through the UKC on many judges, how long theyve judged, most likely picks, etc.

why not get intouch with your local UKC club and see if someone can evaluate her for you... and then do the same with the ADBA club. Maybe you can find a judge to give their opinion

As stated, not every dog is 100% perfect. there are little tricks of the trade, like positioning in the ring, stacking a dog.. etc that can help hide certain faults.

For that, you can take classes in conformation handling (which if you are going to show UKC I would do.. it could help if you;ve never shown before )

Great post. I am wanting to show and or weight pul Jesse for fun, but I live in Nacogdoches, TX and have been able to find nothing about local clubs that aren't an hour or twos drive away. Good luck in your quest

well, a 1 to 4 hour drive is actually in the norm if you want to show. Some people drive more than that.. I know I drive up to about 3 hours one way to get to a few shows..

If you are serious, its worth it. Problem is a dog cannot be properly evaluated online. Call the clubs up, ask if they know anyone closer to you that can help you out.

I do know that sometimes a judge will come to you. you can get the lists of judges colsest to your location and perhaps be able to call or email and the set up an apointment for them to come check out your dog. I heard of that happening in TX, VA, and other states that friends have dogs. I dont know much about the UKC Shows cuz i just dont like UKC.....im also a gamer only. They dont like me and i dont like them...LOL. Good luck and God Bless you and your dogs.

I used to drive to Nacogdoches, Tx w/my grandparents all the time! My aunt went to a college over that way. Once we stopped at a fun park thing with these anamatronic dinosaurs and they scared the crap out of me (I was like 5). lol You know, those things gave me nightmares for weeks! So bad I still remember them, lol.
