I would prefer to watch Cesar Milan's "THE DOG WHISPERER" . He is neutral to all breeds. I tip my hat to him.

I cant even watch the Animal Cops in Detroit anymore. Every show is all about APBTs. They are always abused and in horrible health. There has been a couple of episodes with the dogs in good health with wonderful owners and the take the animal anyway. I would just like to see a show on there that shows the APBT in a different light.

But his training "techniques" are dangerous, paticulary towards bulldog owners.

I also remember hearing that he isn't all that creditable.

GSDbulldog, what techniques are you referring too? I have watched him a few times and he's dogs, and yes he has a petbull, all behave very good. Give us alittle detail on your opinion. Mouser P.S. As for the Animal Planet, they show a warped view of pits. I used to watch Steve Irwin, AKA the Croc hunter. He had a nice little gyp, that he even showed catching wild hogs to bait crocs with, but that was the early years. I believe he's went all soft....

He likes to claim that dog aggression is "curable" and gives owners a false sense of security.

I think that Animal Palnet's plan is to make the APBT look so bad that people dont even want to bother with them. Or either so that everyone will have the idea that every pit bull will attack you and bite your kids and that if the are once in a bad situation they have no reason to live, because they think that they are killers. I believe that no body that works for Animal Planet has an APBT. If so they sure wont stand up for the breed.

I think Animal Planet is awesome. If you are talking about the animal cops shows only, I still think it's awesome. The Miami one sucks, they seem to think the dogs are outlawed because of stereo type. The other shows are great, they do seize pits that are claimed to be involved in fighting, but they show love for the breed and place many of them in happy homes. Even the big league guy owns two pits and the cane corso.

Detroit is my favorite... I want to marry Mike! Just kidding... they can't help that there are so many pit type dogs in Detroit that are not cared for. There are so many pit bulls, they are very cheap to buy and even easier to get for free, they are attractive and that is why so many scum bags get a hold of them. It also shows that the dogs are the victims, the officers are always very considerate and empathetic to the dog's needs. They don't show many barking and angry pits either.

Animal Planet also has many other programs involving pits that are all posative. Pits are so popular they are featured in many training and happy stories shows. They even have the 'meet the breed' shows. I haven't had that station in a while though... boo hoo.

I agree with Riptora, I love animal cops and think they do a relatively good job. They cannot help it that so many pits are used as fighting dogs and abandoned and abused and starved. But when one comes in and is happy and doesn't have scarring, they place it into a good home. The detroit one is my favourite.

I don't think I've ever seen a San Fran episode, but I'de like to state again that the Miami cops SUCK. Facists, they think they are saving the world one bulldog at a time. They were probably hired after the laws were passed and therefore have no experience with the breeds. Lets also not forget that the only people in Miami that are owning these dogs now have no issues breaking the law so I'm sure most of them are thugs owning the breed to be rebelious. So, whatever dogs they do encounter are probably loopy.

Another reason I think BSL is BS: You're going to make certain breeds far more appealling to thugs because... wouldn't you believe it? the breed is so intimidating that it is outlawed! Urrgh...

Imagine the revenue these animal drama's are bringing into these businesses (shelters)Donations to the max no doubt.
Do they show the same disclaimer at the start of their show, (Innocent until proven guilty), that the shows like Cops do?
Do they ever show that they are educating people, or do they just take the animal and run?

Yes, they do show disclaimers. Yes, they do educate and in many circumstances they give the owners, several, I mean several opportunities to comply. They they often reward them with pats on the back and a bag of dog food.

I watch these on a regular basis and I agree that the one in Detroit is probably the worst. Over and over they pick up a dog that has been fought in recent hours and the dog is calmly allowing the officer to walk him to the truck, pick him up bodily and place him in a cage without so much as a growl, much less a bite. So away they go to the vet where the pit bull is examined, exclaimed to be of fighting stock and put down immediatly.
    Extremly sad commentary.

I watch all of the animal cops but to me they really make the owners of pit bulls seem evil, which in some cases that can be true. i would say alot of the owners are idots but at the same time the animal cops do to much sometimes, and think that every single dog that is fought is dangerous. i'm sure they can find a person who doesn't have any other pets and don't plan to get any and will take a pit bull which has been fought but they don't put that effort into it, instead they just kill em.

Another thing that gets me is, dogs play rough. So they get bite marks that can turn into scares. That doesn't make every dog, a fighting dog. I find on their shows, that seems to be alot of their cases. Just because they see a bite mark on it's nose or head, doesn't make that dog a bad dog, or a fighting dog. But, either way, they'll put it down cause it won the fight. Stupidity!

Ever see a possum or coon get into a dog? Its not very often the dog walks away without some serious cuts/lacerations on his face. Nothing life-threatening or severe of course, but they will leave some scars that can VERY EASILY be misidentified as a dog-fighting wound. Never seen it happen? Consider yourself lucky. Personally, I'm tired of tip toeing through the bushes, closing up every little cut my dogs get from everyday play and trodding through the woods/hunting etc. I'm tired of worrying about my dogs being taken away because they do more than sit in a kennel all day, and actually GET OUT AND ENJOY LIFE. They get a couple cuts along the way....it should be no big deal. But combine a few barbedwire cuts with a APBT...add a breaking stick and they've got all the *proof* they need that your a dog fighter.

Very true... and if your dog meets up with the right coon, it can do some pretty good damage before the dog even knows what is going on.

I believe it is the Detroit show that has the vet who is a specialist in fighting dogs, they even use her in court and she praises the breed. She does seem to know what she is talking about. Which may have something to do with all the pit bulls being featured. There are a lot of scum bags in Detroit, so, I think it's just part of the scene.

They did adopt out a pit bull I believe in the Detroit one. I think part of the reason they euth. dogs that were fought is because... well, there are just so many other dogs that need homes that have less risk of being brought right back to the shelter. There are even PLENTY of pits that they do adopt out that were never fought. There's just too many dogs.

It wicked sucks that you have to be so aware of your dogs scarring, but just like the history, it goes with the breed. The never-ending stereo type. Oh, well.

I am from Houston(I try not to claim it to often) and even I hate Animal Cops Houston on Animal Planet. Not only are they ignorant about this breed, their supposed horse expert is a complete idiot. I mainly watch it for the horses so I can see how many errors are made and if any horses I know are on it.
All in all Animal Planet is on all the time in our house, but it is mostly so we can make fun of them and watch the few good shows they have.
