Cradley heath is where he first stafford show was held in 1935,Walsall is about ten miles up the road, theres also a few places in the uk called Warlaston . 12gauge which book did that pic come out of ?. And what was the write up as to the dogs being type.
The dog with the prick ears looks more like the early ebt's type .

which type..?.........which type is the front end type?.....chest and throat dog,..powerfull bite.?.hard mouthed..? the straight back..?
which type is the head dog.?....good wrestler.?......devestating shaking ability.?
    smart punisher?
which type is the little snapper,...slashing and tearing...good little ratter..?
why did we favour the cradley type...?...?

    good answer....winning at what,?...that is the question..LOL
form follows function...or is it function follows form.? ?...understand the function......understand the form.!

It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic,
Of all things physical and metaphysical,
Of all things human and all things super-human,
Of all true manifestations of the head,
Of the heart, of the soul,
That the life is recognizable in its expression,
That form ever follows function. This is the law.’

  9. WTF?? Tigerlines your getting a bit to deep for me. Whatever job is asked of your dog he should do it 110% in my opinion

he, he,ha ,ha,......just enjoying another fine day here in the uk..:D
the types of foundation staffords and their physical form is interesting , for historical reasons........interesting to understand why various areas bred their own types, and what qualitys they were breeding for......what we can learn today,..when the latest selling trick is to own and produce a long limbed fit one ...said to be "TRUE TO TYPE" or "OF THE OLD TYPE"......LOL

That Cradley-type dog isn't bad at all. Of course a dog built like the Walsall-type is going to be the most versatile, but that doesn't mean the Cradley dog won't be a good worker.

there are still a lot around like the cradley dog

i see them all the time

but yeh a lot of em do look far too cute and cuddly, defo got pug in them
i find a lot of the black ones look the worst, not sure why

most of the pied or red staffs i see are still nice

i think the Darlaston was more of a grafting dog, maybe bred that way to catch rabbits and go in and fight the badger easier, although a bit too big to go in it looks more like fox built to me. people talk about if the dog's spannable or not but i havent seen any short legged fox around, where there's a will there's a way within reasonable expectations.
that darlaston stafford might had been the split between the stafford and the bt's like you say oldtymer. didnt they started adding dalmatian and god knows what else around late 1950's to the ebt's

These towns are just down the road from each other I find it hard to believe the dogs looked so different.Pilot came from walsall but look's different to the dog in the pic.And the cradley dog looks like it's got some jim in it's breeding.

this was debated on an open UK forum and someone who's well known in the stafford circuit claimed that even more squatty stafford wiith much shorter legs were better dogs against badgers. I respect their opinion but considering the dog in question ( a pure showstock stafford) i dont buy the story. a dog with that built can't have good wind in my opinion. maybe a good strong entrance but lack of stamina and heart to finish the job

    lol 12 gauge

i dont see how the build would afferct its "heart" to do the job, maybe its wind but i dont see how the mentality would change just based on shorter legs
