    whats happenin people??

just bit of a question about my ambull

i've got one of those rubber tug-toy things

and if i pull it out my dog goes mental, jumping around all over the place
if i let it get hold of the toy, you CAN NOT pull it back, dog will hang off it all day long, ignoring any distraction that may occur, even if i hit her with a stick LOL

is this gameness? or is it like prey drive???

i only ask coz im pretty sure ambulls are part of apbt's genes

i always thought the apbt got its gameness form the terriers and strength/muscle from bulldogs??

but my bitch is a feisty little girl let me tell you lol

seems like normal playtime to me, has nothing to do with gameness.

Your dog just loves her toy and wants to play, dont consider that as gameness.

remember that am bulldogs are working dogs. They love to work and have good drive. I wouldn't consider them game dogs and what you described isn't gameness. I do love am bulldogs tho

Excluding the terriers I'd put the ambull up there in terms of gameness

That has nothing to do with gameness...

How gameness is displayed is that said dog, is in a 'down' state, hurt really badly, or to the point of exhausted or combo of both, Now gameness is ONLY displayed when said dog is going thru this and THEN has a FREE WILL choice, said dog is removed from situation and given the CHOICE to go back to what could kill and what IS trying to kill him, OR he can sit/stand or run away and save his life. Gameness is the action of the dog that CHOOSES on his own and GOES back to what is trying to kill him and doing a good job at it.... This and this alone is what we call Gameness, a dog that so much heart he ignores God's given instinct of self preservation and WANTS to go back to what could be his death....

  6. What Booby Rooster said. Never heard it put any better than that.

Am. Bulldogs are one of the best working breeds in the world IMHO. But as others have so poetically explained they are not game

    yeah i hear you

my dog is for guarding/wathcing purposes anyway so gameness isnt really of importance to me

was more out of curiosity really, as once she sees the toy there is no stopping her LOL

  12. He is just doing what feels good to him instinctually. This is not prey drive or gameness, he is simply being a dog from bulldog ancestry and gripping onto something. It feels good to them to grip because it is just in their blood.

  14. Gameness doesn't count with AB's. They just have an on/off button for search and destroy.

  15. If that is what gameness is about, then AB's must be very game going after those hogs, taking a beating and keeping on them...

I explaned Gameness, that and that alone.... I am not the judge for EVERY single AB weather or NOT he/she is game or not..... I KNOW what gameness is! And I know what it is not....!

  17. Well, AB's can get mashed up and still take out the hog. From what you say is "gameness", they must be very very game. In fact, they are probably more game than any other dog breed if that is what "gameness" is.

ChrisJGreen - If you want to believe that, then good for you, but I respectfully disagree.... Can they be good, even great dogs at what they do, Yep, you bet, but I haven't herd of any AmBulls going for hours on end battling hogs/big cats/wild canines on broken legs exhausted and such.... But if you want to think other wise that's fine we'll just have to have different views on that.

performance bred ab's are not as game as your gb pit but are one of the closest breeds to it.
