I work evenings and when I come home at about 11pm my dog is thrilled to see me... so, I'll take her outside and play with her for a bit and I usually give her a good brushing too.

We are not making noise. If I talk to her, I whisper. She doesn't bark.
BUT the neighbor's "bully" will start whining and barking and he will get my other neighbor's two little brats going too.

Now, the way I see it, I am not doing anything wrong. Do I not have the right to be in my own backyard? Isn't it the responsibility of the owners of the other dogs to keep their traps shut??? I feel bad that these damn dogs are probably disturbing people, but why should I? It's not really my fault, is it? It would be one thing if I were over there taunting their dogs or even being loud with my own, but I'm not. All I have to do is be out there and they start barking!

    I need some opinions here.

Never feel bad about being in your own backyard....if any thing I'd probably complain to the other other dog owners for disturbing you.

I think it's fine, if they don't like their dogs barking they can shut them up.

I usually am up all night and sleep during the day. I used to work nights for about 4 years so I'm just "trained" that way, plus it makes it so I'm up for class rather than sleeping through the alarm. I take my dogs out all night long to play with them or exersize them and the neighbor's dogs will bark sometimes, but I don't care, I just try to keep mine quiet. I've had no complaints.

Yeah, I don't think you are doing anything wrong. As long as you are trying to stay quiet, and as long as your dog is being quiet, you can't help if the neighbor's dogs are being loud.

Hey Crazy....good to see ya. I think everyone should be responsible for their own dogs behavior.

I worked 2nd shift at a gas station for over 3 years. For part of that time, I had a young dog with training and exercise needs to accommodate afterward. When I would get home from work at around 11pm, I would take her out in our yard and spend quality time with her. If any neighbor dogs had a problem with it, that was their shortcoming, not mine.

Of course it is not your fault that their dogs start up, but on the same token in order to be neighborly and keep the peace you should try and find some way to resolve the problem. i had a similar situation and i just brought mine into the basement for qaulity time. But then again, if they aren't willing to put forth some effort towards a solution then keep doing what your doing, being a good owner. JMO
