Whitetail can get fairly large. Up 200lbs+
They kill more people a year here than any other animal in this country. More than many predator species here combined. An adult Whitetail Buck in full rut is a very dangerous animal.

  2. thats fair AGK.with prices like that a man would be dumb not to pay.
its about two hundred quid over here to just shoot a deer.and then the carcuss stays on the stalking estate.haha gets sold in there hotels for big bucks.forty quid a steak there abouts.
these places over here were you can do that is for the toffs.
its thirty quid over here for a fckn fishing rod licence.thirty quid is not that bad if you go fishing at every given momen, and it gives you lea way to scope down river banks but i just dont fish that much.i fish now and then,so they can fuck of.i dont see how a fckn fish can belong to anbody.
oh yeah, thirty quid but you gotta pay to go fish Salmon.then you gotta catch and put it back..they can fuck of..imagine me putting a fckn big Salmon back?
    no wayyy lol.

Six mouths for Salmon and deer over here ya know.and the peniltys are gonna go stiffer.five years!
i prey laws this harsh dont come in..
    seems likly though.

  3. Respect bro....anybody who hunts by getting twenty five yards away from a hooved hornd beast that big deserves respect imo.

proper hunting that mate.similare to how medievil hunters must have hunted ide say.

most deer easy got a twenty five yard strike from basiclly a stand still.a split secound and that deer could rush you at twenty five yards distance man.
has that ever happend to you?
i bet you can tell some fckn tales man.

I remeber you saying ages ago bout em killing more people then any other animal.and you posting the chart about it and all.
this made me think, and i told my old poacher freind about this.its funny but he did say the worst animal you can piss of is one of the bigger speices of deer we have over here.Red,Fallow and Sika.he said when the pissed of they are hugley aggresive and will take the fight to ya.and easy kill ya.

I did say we aint got deer for miles around here...haha why you think that is?coz my old mate culled em all.
he was taking em for over a decade, and stoped taking em when he wasent seeing as many.
a few were spotted just over five years ago but none have been seen ever since.

Shame realy...i realy wanted to by that cheap cross bow lol.

Never had one run up on me. I hang doe estrus drip bags and make doe urine trails in the area I hunt, they are usually too busy paying attention to the drip bag and mock scrapes I make than they are paying any attention to what's around them. Bucks get pretty one tract minded during the rut.

They get a real crazy look in their eyes and are only focused on chasing females.. Most are totally unaware a hunter is even in the area because they are just that focused on pussy.

I also always spray myself down with a scent remover before entering the woods. By the time they figure out I'm there, it's too late and I've already sent the arrow. I only shoot one in archery every 4 or 5 years. I don't get out as much as I'd like because I'm alway working. Last year I only went out 1 time during early or late archery seasons. Just not enough hours in the day.

  5. Intreasting tactic hanging the doe entrals.infact thats a pretty smart move to make.
primative yet again.if you wanna catch a animal, then you gotta think like one.
noing all these little things could of been the deciding factor for the primative hunter as to wether he would of ate or not.

And yes i understand about the hours in a day.before you know it the days over and its night time.
once you have kids the time just flys.
well AGK time and tide wait for no man.
seems like yeasterday my eldest daughter was born.shes five now and i just dont no were them five years have gone.

Sure is good to get out in the wild.good for the health.
weve had nice weather as of late and i was gonna take the kids camping.but in the last few days the weather has went shit and all its done is rain..looks like the next camping trip i do will be solo.sure is great sleeping under the stars.theraputic man.

Sorry for bugging you with all the archery questions lol.
    all the best mate.

  6. Grouse?Grouse?fckn hell man costs five hundred over here to shoot them.they call Grouse shooting over here "the sport of kings"...
basicly ex army colones spending a day on a Grouse more.they cut the fckn trees down so no other bird preditor can kill there precious Grouse, but if i cut even a dead tree down for fire wood and there would be up roar.
Grouse shooting over here is for rich barristars and such.google it man,you will be like wtf?
five hundred to shoot a pair of Grouse over here.five hundred pounds man.
poach it and wooosh!they will shoot you on the spot and you will still be charged with poaching.
hunting is divided over here.the poor cunt who wants to feed his family(me)will get the book thrown at him, while the rich moneyd class right storys about it in the local country paper, and are glorifyed for it.

Not that ive ever poached Grouse.thats one thing ive never caught.ive never even tasted it to be honest.

Not sure what Grouse we have over here?black Grouse i think?
they always on higher ground and im in a lowland setting,so i never see them.
just Pheasent and Partige around here are the two main Game birds...plenty of Ducks to.small amount of wood cock.and wood pidgeon.

Seriously mate,Grouse shooting around here is known as "the sport for kings".

    Its a fckn joke.

I pulled out my Crossbow today to look it over. Need to have it restrung but all in all it's still in great condition. Have had this thing for 10 years but only have fired it twice at a target. Never been in the woods with it. Has a red dot sight. Pretty accurate.

  12. Watched a vid on youtube the other day..
you will no of the guy.hes a bushcraft teacher.
he favors the old fasiond bow we were talking about, but he favors this type because of his mind set.that is survivel.Long term out doors..
anyway he said his bow is 45lbs and is by far enough to kill anything in North America..
with this, and what you have to say about how hard it would be to pull anything over 50lbs..is it historicly correct to think are anseters used bows bigger then this?
there are countless records in history that say bows were 80/90/100+ lbs.there are many acounts of Amercan and Scottish Highland history that claim this.....but when confrnted with real evidence, all this history seems to be way way of the mark.
Now i think, the idea of a indian running with a huge 200lbs bow is hugely inaccurate.

    Nice cross bow btw.
try it out some, you might like it more then your bow....you never no man you never no.

    Stay safe..and happy hunting!

When we say 50lbs. or 40lbs. or what have you, we aren't talking the total weight of the bow. It's referring to draw weight. How many lbs of pressure to pull the string back not the total weight of the bow itself. My compound weights maybe 4lbs and the crossbow is around 7lbs total weight.

I could be miss reading you soze but it reads like your saying the bow itself weights xxx about of weight.

I'm 155lbs and my bow is set at 55lbs. draw weight. I have no problem pulling it back and holding it. At 55lbs and at 20 yards broadside, I'll send an arrow straight through behind the shoulder of a fully mature Whitetail Buck. In and out the girth of the deer.. With the Crossbow, that draw weight is 150lbs. It'll do the same as the compound but at 50 to 60 yards instead of 20.

A 50lb draw weight with a good broadhead will take down Bear.

Sorry AGK..my bad mate..its not that you miss read me its my shitty stoned way of writing things.
sorry mate..i no the bow dont weigh fifty lbs and i no thats the power when its shot.as stoned as i am,that i do understand.
what i meant was records in history state the power of some bows were 80/90/100 +lbs.
i meant is this history correct when we consider a fifty lbs bow will kill a bear?
i mean what would be the point in haveing a powerfuler bow then fifty lbs?
i read something that the Scottish long bow had the power of about a 180lbs..why would they need a bow so powerful when a fifty lbs bow can kill a bear?
it seems history righters on the subject just guessed at the power of old bows.
hope im not confusing you even more here.
wrecking my own head on the history garb now lol.

Some people just like to be excessive I suppose. My bow will go up to 90lbs.
The only real benefit I can see from it is arrow speed or shooting further distances. I couldn't pull back 90lbs quietly. A recurve could definitely hit those draw weights though. Would not be easy to hold the bow drawn for any length of time though at 80+ lbs. With out the cams of the compound taking 80% of that weight load off.

Between the fatigue of holding that weight back, the shaking and twitching of your arms that the fatigue will cause and your breathing your shit placement is going to severely suffer.

  20. Thats just it mate...i know are anseters were stronger then us but to pull a bow that strong would tax herculese or thor.
also bows were not just a hunting tool, they were used in warfare aswell.if a bow with the shooting power of 45-60lbs can take a bear out, then what would it do to a human?fck me probs go right threw ya.and some..i no bows are a insinctive way of shooting something, but would it of took this many hundreds of years for man to work out he only needs the power of a fifty lbs bow?

    All the best AGK..
thanks for your imput on bows and cross bows.ive learnt quite a lot of this thread.
youve defintly raised my intrests in bows and cross bows.
