    Hi all,

Sorry I know this is an APBT forum - but was wondering if anyone here knows of a good breeder of Dogo Argentinos in Ontario?? I've had absolutely no luck finding one. They don't seem to be very popular. Can't find one to adopt, either.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! I am in Toronto. Thx!

i remeber seeing a dog rescue somewhere but i cant find it now. ill point you there when i find it but its in the us. most breeders will ship you the pup all you have to pay is the freight shipping cost which is around 300$. i think the shipping is fair considering the dog will be with you 10 years + .jmo .

Thanks for your responses. I have never purchased a dog before. I have only ever adopted so I really don't know everything I should be looking for from that breeder? How do I know without meeting the breeder and dogs beforehand that what I'm getting is good? I don't know how to even read a pedigree..seriously! I wouldn't mind paying for the shipping as long as I'm getting the kind of dog I'm paying for :)

I really would prefer to adopt but like I said I've never come across a Dogo Argentino available for adoption.

    Thanks again!

You sure a dogo won't be a bit to much dog for you???? Dogo's are no joke, they are big, powerful, head strong and !!!!EXTREAMLY!!!!! protective dogs meant for guarding and hunting big game...

If your wanting a pretty white bully type breed for pet, look into white English Bull Terriers, extremely sweet dogs that are bred more for pet type than work type...

Ppl say that some dogo's are shit is because you think tthey're gonna ship grade A stock out?? HA HA that's funny, did we send out good dogs over seas?? LOL hell no, they had to come over here and choose what they wanted and took it back, Same with dogo's the folks that have the best stock went down there and got it and then brought it back... The USA folks kept the shit eaters and bred the effers anyway, that's most of the stock in TX and LA now TN and GA have some good hog dogs, but its just like anything, what suits you is the hartdestt to find if your looking for the right kind... JM2C take it with a gain of salt

Thanks for the responses. I don't have any experience with these dogs - I've only done some reading on them. I'd like another dog that can keep up with mine! Getting another Pit Bull isn't an option for me here :( Hopefully that answers your question?? They seem to be a very impressive breed. I'm kind of dissapointed at not being able to find one.

But you think a Dogo would be too much for me? I'd welcome some suggestions if you know of another breed that can keep up with my APBT?? I'm not interested in doing any protection work with a dog that I own. The only kind of trained 'work' I would do is agility like I do with my current dog.

    Thanks again!

Las Pampas Kennels. They are the oldest kennel of Dogo breeders in the states. They have even quit dogo clubs because people here aren't breeding to fit the original breed standard as much anymore but las pampas does and I believe they got their stock from Argentina which is where this breed originated. They're not cheap. And they are very powerful animals and probably not for everyone.

id think about it, you dont need anything to keep up with the apbt but you. throwing a dogo into the mix will end up in tears if your not very carefull. never trust an apbt not to fight and a dogo doesnt strike me to say no to a bit of action if it shows up. two full grown dogs of that caliber and size fighting wouldnt be fun by yourself.

check out east texas hogdoggers furum, go to the dog trade page, just keep an open mind when going to this site these folks are strictly huntin kind and strictly business ( no fakers), nevermind a mainstream idea of whats right or wrong towards breedin....you'll see what I mean, however, these folks are polite and just want to help

Thx Yarboy I checked them out. They aren't looking to sell to anyone who doesn't want to breed (understandably).

Boss has only been in one little scrap. Well, more like a tiff...but because of my own stupidity not realizing my friend had put his dog's food bowl out and Boss went to stick his face into his Boxer's food. Luckily the Boxer only had a couple scrapes - but could have been very bad if I hadn't come out right away. Learned my lesson there!

So yeah basically he won't start a fight - but he won't run away from one either. Food is his only trigger (but only when confronted by dogs bigger than him). So I would be extra careful for sure!

Thanks again for everyone's thoughts. I will definitely continue to do lots of research before I commit. Wouldn't want things to end in heartbreak and tears ;)
